OVA
Description
Kiyone Masaki is the mother of Tenchi and Tennyo Masaki within the OVA continuity. As the daughter of Katsuhito Masaki—formerly Yosho, crown prince of Jurai—and Airi, she possesses half-Juraian and half-Airaian heritage. Her elder sister Minaho Masaki is nearly 500 years her senior. During childhood, Kiyone alternated residence between Earth and the Galaxy Academy whenever Yosho stayed there, frequently under Minaho's supervision.

Known as a rebellious hellion and "true daughter of Airi" in her youth, Kiyone displayed uncontrollable mischief with a slightly sadistic edge. She relentlessly tormented the orphan Nobuyuki Masaki through pranks in Masaki Village. Despite this, Nobuyuki later proposed to her, baffling villagers. Marriage softened her temperament, though her mischievous nature endured.

In the early 20th century, Kiyone and Nobuyuki welcomed their first child Tennyo, who physically resembled her mother. Roughly 70 years later, they had their son Tenchi. Kiyone cared for other household children including Kiriko Masaki, Kai Masaki, and Seina Yamada. She expressed affection for Tenchi through elaborate pranks, such as scaling a mountain for herbs despite a nearby meadow or privately dressing as a schoolgirl in her later years.

Shortly before Tenchi's birth, Kiyone discovered Rea from Geminar stranded in a field after interdimensional travel. She comforted Rea, brought her home without revealing her origins, and vowed to "take care of it" upon learning Rea’s mission to bear a child against Gaia. Kiyone secretly researched interdimensional travel by raiding Galaxy Academy labs and libraries while studying fantasy literature. She never completed this research or disclosed Rea’s background to her family before dying.

Kiyone died peacefully at age 248 when Tenchi was young, her death attributed to old age despite Juraian longevity—likely due to avoiding bio-enhancements, possibly influenced by Minaho’s traumatic experiments under Airi. Kiriko and Seina later harbored irrational guilt, fearing they caused her death during her care of them.

Her will included a script co-authored with Airi, instructing Katsuhito and Nobuyuki to tell Tenchi absurd fabricated stories about her surviving improbable accidents like cliff falls or lightning strikes, diverging from her actual death. When recounted in "Final Confrontations," these tales angered Tenchi. Rea later found him, explaining Kiyone’s pranks as expressions of love and revealing Tenchi’s memory of a quietly smiling mother likely concealed laughter at his expense. Tenchi realized his idealized image of Kiyone was partially conflated with Rea, who assumed a motherly role posthumously.

Kiyone’s legacy includes disorganized interdimensional travel research notes, which Tennyo spent years deciphering. Her face and lilac eyes bore a slight resemblance to Kei from *Spaceship Agga Ruter*, lacking the distinctive spot between the lashes.
