Description
Kyoichi Shido is Makoto Shido's older brother and a central figure in the series, renowned for his exceptional mountain biking talent, particularly as a trial bike champion. He rides the specialized Idaten Bike Thunder Emperor, capable of traversing thin wires and cables. His appearance features a fair complexion, golden hair, and emerald green eyes. He typically wears a light blue T-shirt under a deep blue sleeveless jacket, elbow pads, gloves, blue jeans, and grey sneakers. Alternative outfits include a yellow and white helmet with a black ensemble featuring yellow shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, and a white cape, or a black robe with maroon-tipped hair and dark eye patches when under the Dark Emblem's influence.

Initially introduced anonymously as "The Masked Rider," Kyoichi surveilled Sho Yamato, Makoto, Kakeru Sakamaki, and Hosuke from a distance. Upon entering the X-Zone, he received a critical task from Takeshi Yamato: safeguarding Sho’s platinum emblem of the Flame Kaiser and locating other Idaten Bike riders. He repeatedly acted as a protector for Sho’s group, rescuing Makoto from cliffs, leaving navigational marks during adverse weather, and retrieving Sho’s emblem from adversaries. He also educated Sho about the Idaten Battle competitions.

Kyoichi exhibits a serious, reserved, and unsociable demeanor, rarely smiling except during interactions with Makoto. He balances confidence with a willingness to sacrifice for his goals, demonstrating resilience after setbacks. Despite his stern exterior, he prioritizes others' safety over his own, particularly showing deep concern for Makoto and Sho’s team. A notable vulnerability is his fear of birds, stemming from a childhood incident where birds attacked him after seeds were placed in his hair.

His character undergoes significant development when the Dark Emblem possesses him, causing him to abandon Thunder Emperor for Imperial Tiger and adopt a darker persona. While controlled, he nearly defeated Sho in a tournament but reverted to his normal self just before the finish line, allowing Sho to win. After Sho freed him from the Dark Emblem’s influence, Kyoichi initially blamed himself for endangering others but shifted focus to defeating Team X upon Makoto’s encouragement. This experience reinforced his commitment to teamwork and protecting the X-Zone.

Kyoichi’s skills as a rider and mechanic are widely recognized, earning him admiration as a role model. His strategic acumen allows him to analyze opponents and devise effective tactics, though this confidence occasionally leads him to underestimate rivals. His growth is marked by evolving from a solitary figure to a collaborative ally, emphasizing unity in confrontations against threats like Team X.
