Description
Sniff serves as a central figure across numerous Moomin narratives, originating in Tove Jansson's stories and prominently featured in the anime "Tanoshii Moomin Ikka: Bōken Nikki". Separated from his biological parents, the Muddler and Fuzzy, during childhood, the Moomin family discovered him while searching for Moominpappa and adopted him as a sibling to Moomintroll and Little My.

Physically, Sniff resembles a small kangaroo or bandicoot, possessing distinctive large, pointed ears and a long, thin tail; his fur color varies across adaptations between white or greyish-brown. His personality combines greed, cowardice, and timidity. He enthusiastically pursues adventures, especially those promising riches or sparkly valuables, though his fear of danger frequently overcomes this eagerness; he particularly avoids water and high-risk activities.

Sniff's obsession with wealth accumulation drives his actions, contrasting characters like Snufkin who favor minimalism. This fixation sometimes leads him into schemes with morally ambiguous figures like Stinky. Despite these flaws, his negative traits resemble those of an immature child rather than malice, and he remains fundamentally good-natured and loyal.

His character development shows initial jealousy and rivalry towards Moomintroll maturing into acceptance within the Moomin family, a progression notably expanded in the revised "Comet in Moominland". Later original narratives reduced his prominence, with his final book appearance in "Tales from Moominvalley", though adaptations maintain his semi-major role.

Within "Tanoshii Moomin Ikka: Bōken Nikki", Sniff engages in storylines reflecting his core traits. Specific episodes focus on his experiences: episode 202 ("Sniff's Love") explores interpersonal dynamics, while episode 215 ("A Sniff at Everything") emphasizes his perspective. He alternates residence between the Moominhouse and his own nearby dwelling.

Sniff retains strong sentimental attachments to possessions, notably a cuddly toy dog named Cedric, referenced in game-related media. This object functions as both a comfort item and narrative device within extended lore.
