Description
Taffy, named Tetsunoshin in Japanese, is a seven-month-old Toy Poodle owned by Rumi Inuyama. Hailing from Kyushu, he moves with the family to Tokyo's affluent Hoppongi Hills district. He was the 81st of 102 puppies born to Chiyo, a prized breeding dog, and possesses a five-meter pedigree certificate later damaged by water.
Driven by the Inuyama family's severe financial crisis—stemming from expensive rent, looming IT company bankruptcy, and extravagant spending—Taffy partners with the Hills Dogs. This secret canine group operates from Dog Paradise, an alternate dimension accessed via special goggles. His initial devotion to Rumi carries romantic undertones, later shifting as he develops feelings for another dog.
Through magic granted by the Hills Dogs' leader, Seto, Taffy transforms into his human alter ego, Celebrity Knight. Lasting only three minutes per use, this form allows him to interact with humans to earn money. As Celebrity Knight, he adopts a flamboyant persona, announcing arrivals with declarations like "The messenger of Love, Justice, and Making Money. The Celebrity Knight has arrived!" If his secret is exposed, he risks permanent transformation into a monkey.
Taffy combines naivete, determination, and fierce loyalty. He speaks with a Kyushu dialect, adding "-tai" to sentences when agitated. Initially scrappy and clumsy—notably unable to swim—he demonstrates resilience and a strong moral compass. He rejects conflict between dog factions, seeking peaceful resolutions and maintaining an "All-Loving Hero" mindset, refusing to deem enemies irredeemable, which helps him befriend adversaries like John.
Traumatic events shape his growth. He forms a deep, romantic bond with Chocolat, a Chihuahua Hills Dog later revealed as Twelve, a spy for the rival Shirogane Dogs. After betraying the Hills Dogs and petrifying much of Hoppongi Hills, Chocolat sacrifices herself to save Taffy from the Shirogane leader Neo, dying in his arms. This loss, combined with failing to save Sasuke, witnessing Rumi's petrification, and Seto's apparent death, fuels a temporary desire for vengeance against Neo.
Taffy's confrontation with Neo reveals the cruel Shirogane leader is his biological father. Taffy ultimately convinces Neo to abandon his destructive path, leading to Neo's self-sacrifice to reverse the petrification. This resolution reaffirms Taffy's belief in redemption. He comes to view Seto as a father figure after Neo's demise.
Within the Hills Dogs, Taffy is the determined newcomer. The Bull Terrier Pochi idolizes him as a "big brother." Group gadgets and magic aid his missions. His journey blends slapstick humor—occasional monkey transformations as punishment—with profound growth from an inexperienced country dog into a resilient hero forged by loss, betrayal, and reconciliation.
