Description
Saiko Yuki emerged from the government-sponsored YLPER Project, a program designed to forge psychic weapons via genetic manipulation and experimental treatments. She was one of four child subjects, designated alongside Lisa, Hiroko, and Annie. The project aimed to cultivate esper abilities similar to ESPER, termed "Ylem perception." While her core powers were precognition and clairvoyance, she later manifested the abilities of the other three subjects, gaining teleportation for herself and groups, the power to generate defensive force shields that neutralize attacks, and psychokinetic capabilities to induce explosions.
Rally Cheyenne discovered her distressed on the streets and recruited her into the Attacked Mystification Police (AMP). Within the AMP, she served as a dispatch officer and data processing assistant to Lebia Maverick, often viewed as the team's mascot due to her youthful demeanor. Despite occasional perceptions of airheadedness linked to her teenage years, she displayed significant courage during critical operations.
Outside her police duties, she operated a small coffee shop named Labyrinth, run more as a hobby than a business. This was facilitated by a lease requiring no rent as long as the business operated, an arrangement later revealed to stem from Toru Washio, her lifelong romantic interest, owning the building housing both the cafe and her residence.
Her relationship with Toru Washio began during an encounter with a Lucifer Hawk and a magical coffee mill in 1997 when she was 18 and he was 17. Following her return to her original timeline in 2027, they reunited after Toru waited over three decades. Near the anime's conclusion, it was disclosed Toru initiated the YLPER Project. He traded his soul to Nemesis for the chance to reunite with her, but upon understanding Ganossa's and Nemesis's threats to Earth, he directed the project to develop esper capabilities as a countermeasure against the Lucifer Hawks.
In "The Motion Picture 2," set in 2024, she encountered Katsumi Liqueur during a period of distress. Katsumi, attempting to flee Tokyo after traumatic events involving the AMP and Lucifer Hawks, was found by Yuki during an acid rainstorm. Yuki provided shelter and care, fostering a significant bond. Her precognition revealed Katsumi's importance in the conflict against the Lucifer Hawks, and she actively persuaded Katsumi to join the AMP's efforts. This friendship became crucial during subsequent Lucifer Hawk attacks targeting Katsumi.
