Pandora was born into Germany's noble Heinstein family, enjoying a privileged childhood within their castle. During a forbidden exploration of a derelict estate building, she discovered a sealed box bearing Athena's insignia. Opening it released the twin gods Hypnos and Thanatos. They informed her Hades would soon be reborn as her brother and granted her command over his future army of 108 Specters, plus eternal life, contingent on her protection of Hades until the final battle.
When Hades was born through her mother, death claimed all life within the castle—her parents, servants, pets, and plants—leaving Pandora the sole survivor. This event transformed the castle into a domain of death and marked the start of her service to Hades. As an adult, she became the primary administrator of the Underworld, commanding absolute authority over Hades' forces. She ruthlessly enforced loyalty, such as torturing the Specter Wyvern Rhadamanthys for defying Hades' orders.
Her duties included securing a human vessel for Hades' reincarnation. She traveled to Japan and identified Shun of Andromeda as the ideal host. After confronting Shun's brother Ikki, she implanted a pendant in Shun to forge a link with Hades, erasing the encounter from Ikki's memory. She later orchestrated a trap for the Silver Saint Lyra Orphée, who sought to resurrect his lover Eurydice. Though momentarily moved by his music, she ordered the Specter Sphinx Pharaoh to prevent his escape from the Underworld.
During the Holy War, Pandora oversaw the invasion of Athena's Sanctuary. Her leadership was tested when renegade Gold Saints Saga, Camus, and Shura delivered Athena's seemingly lifeless body. She uncovered their deception when they refused to relinquish the body, leading to a confrontation where the Specter Frog Zelos was frozen and Pandora faced threats. As the war shifted to the Underworld, she confronted Ikki again. Witnessing his resolve to protect Shun, she defied Hades by giving Ikki her interdimensional necklace—a gift from Hades enabling travel between realms like Elysion. This act restored her ability to see in color, lost during her servitude. Thanatos, viewing her as a traitor, executed her.
In the spin-off *The Lost Canvas*, Pandora's backstory diverges. She reincarnates in each Holy War to select Hades' vessel. As a child, she befriended Partita but later ordered Partita's assassination after mistakenly believing she stole Hades' soul, resulting in the death of Partita's infant son Tenma. As an adult, Pandora served Hades with paranoid devotion, sealing him to focus on painting the world-destroying "Lost Canvas." Discovering her childhood companion Alone was merely Hades' vessel—not the god himself—she sought vengeance but was mortally wounded by the Specter Owl Partita. Tenma protected her during their battle, and she survived to continue serving Hades' army before delivering the sealed souls of Hypnos and Thanatos to Heinstein Castle.
