Minosse del Grifone, formally known as Griffon Minos, stands as one of the three Judges of Hell in Hades' army, a position he shares with Wyvern Rhadamanthys and Garuda Aiacos. His title derives from the Celestial Noble Star, and he is regarded as the most powerful of all Specters. During the 15th-century Holy War, he spearheaded an invasion of the shrine alongside Specters such as Worm Raimi and Bat Wimber, but they were defeated and slain by Altar Hakurei. In the 18th-century Holy War depicted in *The Lost Canvas*, Minos led a group of Specters to assault the Sanctuary. Their advance was halted by Pisces Albafica’s field of poisoned roses, which killed all of Minos’ subordinate Specters. Minos confronted Albafica directly, capturing him with his Cosmic Marionettion technique. He crushed all of Albafica’s bones, believing him dead. Minos then attempted to destroy the nearby village of Rodorio, confronting Aries Shion and a young girl named Agasha. Albafica, having survived, intervened and ultimately killed Minos by stabbing him in the heart with a white rose imbued with his own poisonous blood. Before dying, Minos attempted to use his Gigantic Feathers Flap technique to destroy Rodorio, but this was halted by Shion’s Crystal Wall. In the Hades arc of the main series, Minos serves as a high-ranking and formidable official within the Underworld army. He first appeared in full at a recital held by Lyra Orphee for Hades, alongside the other Judges. Later, he investigated a confrontation between Wyvern Rhadamanthys and Gemini Kanon. Minos subdued Kanon effortlessly using his Cosmic Marionettion, torturing him by breaking his fingers and manipulating his joints. Phoenix Ikki intervened, freeing Kanon from Minos’ control. Sensing immense cosmic energies in Hades’ throne room, Minos went to investigate and was confronted by the Bronze Saints Pegasus Seiya and Andromeda Shun. He demonstrated dominance over them and later over Dragon Shiryu and Cygnus Hyoga. His technique allowed him to reverse or deflect their attacks, such as Seiya’s Pegasus Ryu Sei Ken and Shun’s Nebular Chains. Minos was caught in the massive energy blast when the twelve Gold Saints destroyed the Wailing Wall but survived the explosion. He later pursued the remaining Bronze Saints and confronted Cygnus Hyoga, who stayed behind to fight him. Hyoga attempted to block his path with a technique similar to the Freezing Coffin, but Minos shattered it. Hyoga’s Diamond Dust attack was reversed, and Minos captured him with Cosmic Marionettion. However, Hyoga froze the cosmic strings, broke free, and struck Minos with his Aurora Execution technique. The attack damaged Minos’ Surplice but did not defeat him. Minos attached a string to Hyoga and followed him into the Hyperdimension leading to Elysion. Within the Hyperdimension, Minos’ body and Surplice were obliterated and crushed into atoms, as only those with divine protection, such as a Cloth blessed by a god’s blood, can survive its currents. His primary technique is Cosmic Marionettion, which employs nearly invisible cosmic strings to ensnare an opponent’s limbs, enabling Minos to control their body movements like a marionette and inflict severe torture or fatal injuries by manipulating their joints and bones. In *The Lost Canvas*, he also used a technique called Gigantic Feathers Flap, where the beating wings of his Griffon Surplice generate a hurricane of concentrated cosmic energy that expands and explodes. In *Next Dimension*, his 18th-century incarnation is named Griffin Vermeer. Vermeer possesses the same Griffon Surplice, techniques, and title as one of the Judges of Hell. He is noted for physical strength superior to that of a Gold Saint and utilizes a variant of Cosmic Marionettion that breaks all the bones in an opponent’s body, forcing them into a dance-like movement, as well as an indestructible hellish string for killing. Minos’ character remains reserved, calm, and calculating, marked by high confidence in his own strength and that of his fellow Judges. He exhibits a sadistic tendency during combat, often prolonging battles to torture his opponents through his marionette technique. As a Judge, he also holds a judicial role within the Underworld, determining the fates of souls, and is served by subordinates like the Specter Lune of Barlon. His name and mythological inspiration draw from Minos, the legendary King of Crete and judge of the underworld in Greek mythology.
