Shura stands among Athena's twelve Gold Saints, bearing the constellation Capricornus. During the original Sanctuary conflict, he knowingly served the false Pope, later unmasked as Gemini Saga, despite awareness of Saga's murder of the previous Pope. In this service, Shura confronted Sagittarius Aiolos as Aiolos protected the infant Athena, delivering a fatal wound that contributed to Aiolos' death. This act haunted Shura for years, fueled by his observation that Aiolos showed no signs of treachery.
Years later, when the Bronze Saints invaded Sanctuary to rescue Athena, Shura faced Dragon Shiryu. In their battle, Shura unleashed Excalibur, a technique inherent to his limbs that shredded Shiryu's defenses. After piercing Shiryu's chest, Shura became trapped, forcing Shiryu to amputate Shura's arm and initiate a suicidal attack. As both hurtled towards outer space, Shiryu declared his fight for love, justice, and peace in Athena's name. This revelation shattered Shura's convictions. He redeemed himself by transferring his Gold Cloth to Shiryu, imparting the Excalibur technique to Shiryu's right arm, and kicking him back to Earth, sacrificing his own life to reaffirm his loyalty to Athena.
In non-canonical narratives like *Episode G*, Shura remained faithful to Athena but fell under Saga's "Illusion Demon Emperor's Fist" mind control after uncovering Aiolos' innocence, reconciling his portrayals by showing underlying loyalty despite forced obedience. Within the *Soul of Gold* arc, Shura actively sought atonement for Aiolos' death, expressing explicit regret to Leo Aiolia and hoping to sacrifice his life for forgiveness.
During the Hades conflict, Shura's spirit returned alongside Gemini Saga and Aquarius Camus, revived as Spectral Soldiers under Hades' command. They infiltrated Sanctuary, overpowering Aries Mu collectively. At Virgo Shaka's temple, Shura, Saga, and Camus were compelled to use the forbidden Athena Exclamation against Shaka, with Shura initially resisting its blasphemy. After Shaka's demise, Shura assisted in his final rites, lamenting the loss.
Shura's legacy persisted through the bestowed Excalibur technique. During Shiryu's battle against Poseidon's general Chrysaor Krishna, Shura's spirit urged Shiryu to wield the technique, enabling Shiryu to sever Krishna's lance and armor by achieving Gold Saint-level cosmos. The *Lost Canvas* spin-off featured a different Capricorn Saint, El Cid, visually similar but narratively unconnected to Shura.
Shura's character evolved from a conflicted follower of corrupt authority to a redeemed guardian of Athena, his ultimate sacrifice and posthumous support cementing his role as a loyal Gold Saint.
