Ikki de Fênix is the Bronze Saint of the Phoenix constellation. Trained on Death Queen Island under Guilty, he endured harsh methods focused on hatred as power. Failing to kill Guilty resulted in the accidental death of Esmeralda, Guilty's daughter and Ikki's love, triggering profound hatred. This led him to temporarily oppose Athena's forces, commanding the Black Saints and stealing the Sagittarius Gold Cloth during the Galactic Wars tournament. He abandoned vengeance after defeat by Pegasus Seiya, Dragon Shiryu, Cygnus Hyoga, and his younger brother Andromeda Shun. Contrasting sharply with Shun's gentle nature, Ikki exhibits aggression, emotional detachment, and a preference for solitary action. Despite this, his loyalty to Shun, Athena, and former rivals is unwavering, prompting timely interventions in critical battles. His combat abilities utilize a distinctive cosmos fueled by rage and hatred, channeled through protective instincts. Primary techniques are the Houyoku Tenshou (Phoenix Wing Ascension), generating destructive cosmic winds, and the Houou Genma Ken (Phoenix Illusion Demon Fist), attacking opponents' minds by manifesting their deepest fears. The Phoenix Cloth possesses unique regenerative properties, self-repairing without external aid and evolving through destruction. Notable transformations occurred after battles with Virgo Shaka, during the Underworld campaign, and upon contact with Athena's blood in Elysium, attaining God Cloth status. In the Hades Chapter, Ikki resurfaces in the Underworld, defeating Garuda Aiacos, one of Hades' three Judges. Confronting Hades possessing Shun's body, Ikki attempted to forcibly extract the deity, resulting in his apparent death and imprisonment in Cocytus—the icy hell for those defying gods. Defying this fate through his resurrection ability, he escaped without external aid in the anime; Pandora assisted him in the manga. During the assault on the Wailing Wall, his cosmos contributed to the Gold Saints' collective effort. In Elysium, his Phoenix Cloth evolved into the God Cloth after exposure to Athena's blood, enabling the final battle against Thanatos and Hades. Beyond Hades, Ikki appears in "Saint Seiya: Next Dimension," rescuing Shun from Artemis' Satellites and traveling 243 years into the past. There, he battles specters alongside Cancer Death Toll and interacts with past Gemini Saints Cain and Abel. Kaiser, the past Leo Gold Saint, designates Ikki as his successor. In "Saint Seiya Omega," set decades later, he mentors the new generation of Saints, retaining his Phoenix powers. Non-canon anime arcs, like the Asgard conflict, depict him defeating God Warriors such as Mime and Bud, sacrificing his cloth during one encounter. The Poseidon arc shows him extracting strategic information from Sea Dragon Kanon after defeating Lyumnades Kayza. Ikki's resilience stems from the Phoenix mythos, granting resurrection after each death with increased power. He awakened the Seventh Sense battling Shaka, matching Gold Saint capabilities, and the Eighth Sense (Arayashiki) to navigate the Underworld unrestrained by its laws. Officially a Bronze Saint, his raw power consistently exceeds most Silver Saints and rivals Gold Saints, particularly noted against high-level Spectres and deities.
