Description
Suikakujū stands as a primary antagonist across multiple narrative iterations, originating as a champion of the demon realm Makai serving its queen, Genyo. His core mission is to prevent the prophesied unification of the human, man-beast, and demon worlds by destroying the Chōjin, an entity he believes would bring catastrophic change. This drive to preserve Makai's integrity pits him against the man-beast Amano Jyaku, protector of the Chōjin.

In the original anime, Suikakujū's history begins in 1923 when he orchestrated the Great Kantō earthquake in Tokyo by summoning the sea demon Maō through his lover Fukakuki. Amano Jyaku's counterattack inflicted severe injuries, costing Suikakujū his right leg and half his face. Undeterred, he continued his quest for decades. By the 1990s, learning the Chōjin had manifested in human Tatsuo Nagumo, he manipulated human Yūichi Niki into becoming a vessel to destroy it. A climactic battle with Amano Jyaku destroyed Suikakujū's body. Fukakuki later resurrected him within Niki's corpse using his horn. In this weakened state, he absorbed both Fukakuki and another lover, Enkakuki, to regain strength. His final attempt to summon Maō during the merging of the three worlds failed when Nagumo killed the sea demon; Amano Jyaku subsequently impaled and killed Suikakujū, who urged Amano with his last breath to stop the Chōjin.

Thirty years after his death, his sister Yoenki, manipulated by antagonist Münchhausen II into believing Amano murdered Suikakujū unjustly, embarked on a quest for vengeance, extending his narrative influence.

The 2002 remake *New Saga* recontextualizes his role: he directly receives orders from Genyo to kill Amano Jyaku, eliminating him as protector of suspected Chōjin vessel Norikazu Ozaki. In one scene, he rapes Genyo’s daughter, Seigenki, claiming permission from the queen.

Physically, Suikakujū possesses demonic traits like long horns. Manga iterations depict additional grotesque features, including three penises and a missing arm—an injury from a past conflict with Amano Jyaku 150 years prior. Anime redesigns present a more noble appearance.

Key relationships define his arc: loyalty to Queen Genyo; romantic ties to Fukakuki and Enkakuki, whom he consumes for power; and his evolving rivalry with Amano Jyaku, where both grapple with the Chōjin’s true nature. The remake adds a brutal dynamic with Seigenki.

Adaptation differences significantly shape him: the manga portrays a vengeful, aggressive demon fixated on a personal grudge against Amano, while the anime elevates him to a tragic anti-villain driven by apocalyptic prevention, featuring altered motivations, refined visual design, and a more dignified presence.
