Description
Christophe Colomb jeune grew up in Genoa, Italy, born to wool weaver Domenico Colombo and Susanna Fontanarossa. He displayed rebellious ambition early, clashing with his father's expectations to continue the family weaving trade. Genoa's seafaring culture ignited his childhood fascination with maritime exploration. As a teenager, he voyaged across the Mediterranean, including to Chios, deepening his navigation skills and resolve for a life at sea. He abandoned family duties to pursue this path.

He married Portuguese noblewoman Felipa Perestrelo e Moniz, fathering a son, Diego. Obsessed with securing royal backing for a westward voyage to Asia, he neglected Felipa during her terminal illness while traveling to petition monarchs; she died in his absence. Afterward, he formed a relationship with Beatriz Enríquez de Arana in Spain, fathering a second son, Fernando. During his relentless quest for funding, he lobbied courts in Portugal, Genoa, and Venice, displaying occasional arrogance toward bishops and royalty. His persistence succeeded when Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castile sponsored him after the Granada War.

His stubborn ambition consistently overrode family bonds: he neglected Diego, rapidly transitioned from Felipa to Beatriz, and sacrificed personal ties for exploration. The narrative concludes with his 1492 departure from Spain aboard the *Santa Maria*, *Pinta*, and *Niña*, launching the voyage that encountered the Americas.
