Description
Senbei Norimaki, alias Dr. Slump, is a genius inventor living in Penguin Village. Initially conceived by creator Akira Toriyama as a cool, handsome protagonist, the character was redesigned with an "idiotic personality" to prevent outshining Toriyama, resulting in a portly figure with bushy black hair, a mustache, and frequent attire of a lab coat or a "Slump"-labeled cap. A recurring visual gag shows him temporarily transforming into a taller, ruggedly handsome version when confident, though this state lasts only three minutes.
Orphaned young, Senbei developed a hatred for dogs after one insulted his intelligence during childhood. He attended Penguin Village Middle School, harboring a crush on his teacher. Early inventions included a talking alarm clock and the Future Camera, which photographed subjects as they would appear later. His life changed irrevocably upon creating Arale Norimaki, an android girl intended as a perfect human replica. Design flaws resulted in Arale suffering severe nearsightedness, requiring glasses. Senbei inconsistently presented her to villagers as either his younger sister or his daughter, creating a perpetual narrative contradiction. Her creation stemmed from his desire to build an attractive maid for himself in some adaptations, a plan that went awry.

Using the latter, he traveled to the prehistoric era and acquired a mysterious egg that hatched into Gatchan (Gadzilla), a winged, metal-eating creature adopted into the Norimaki household.
Senbei harbored a long-standing infatuation with Arale's teacher, Midori Yamabuki. After misunderstandings and failed attempts to impress her, he accidentally proposed to her while she was using the toilet. She surprisingly accepted, and they married shortly thereafter in an abruptly depicted ceremony. Their relationship progressed, Midori became pregnant, and Senbei excitedly announced the impending birth throughout Penguin Village, receiving mixed reactions. She gave birth to their son, Turbo Norimaki.
