OVA
Description
Taka Sukunami, originally named Sou Kishuku in The Universe of the Four Gods, grows up as the eldest son in a poor Hakukou village family. Following his mother's death, he shoulders responsibility for his sick father and four younger siblings, forging an initial preoccupation with money while cultivating fierce loyalty and protectiveness. Trained in martial arts by Tokaki of the Byakko warriors, he becomes the strongest Suzaku Celestial Warrior, capable of channeling chi into energy blasts and enhancing his physical prowess.
Rescuing Miaka Yuki and Yui Hongo from slave traders binds him to Miaka, the Priestess of Suzaku. After Nakago's forces murder his family, his devotion transfers entirely to Miaka, fueling his determination to shield her. Their bond deepens despite challenges, including Nakago's use of "kudoku" to brainwash Tamahome into attacking Miaka against his will. Miaka's love and a kiss break the mind control.
When Miaka summons Suzaku, her wish to remain with Tamahome is refused; instead, Suzaku restores the book's world, separating them. To reunite, Tamahome chooses reincarnation in Miaka's world through Taiitsukun, sacrificing his memories to the Jewels of Memory. He is reborn as Taka Sukunami, a Tokyo college student haunted by fragmented dreams of his past.
Working first as a waiter, then a school coach, Taka encounters Miaka again through her brother Keisuke. They form a relationship despite his incomplete memories. Drawn back into the book, Taka reclaims Tamahome's memories by gathering the Jewels of Memory, confronting and merging with an illusion of his past self created from the jewels.
In later OVAs and the spin-off *Eikoden*, Taka and Miaka marry and have a son, Hikari. When the antagonist Mayo abducts their unborn child into the book, Taka returns to rescue them, demonstrating his commitment as husband and father. His core traits—protective loyalty, strategic combat skill, and readiness to sacrifice for loved ones—endure across lifetimes, marking his evolution from family provider to self-assured partner and parent.
