Description
Xiuying Hong, alias Lishao Tao, serves as master of Wan Chai's Scarlet Hills Man Mo Temple, respected for her martial arts expertise and wisdom. She stands 168 cm tall with long dark brown hair in a ponytail and brown eyes, often wearing either a dark red long-sleeved shirt with orange belt, light brown skirt, and dark red boots, or a bright blue sleeveless Chinese robe with black sandals.

Orphaned after her parents' murder, Xiuying and brother Ziming Hong grew up in a Hong Kong orphanage and later Kowloon's Thousand White Convent. Ziming joined the Chi You Men to find their parents' killer, leaving her half a Yin-Yang stone as a promise to return. She never saw him again, learning he became the Chi You Men leader White Tiger—a loss that fuels her enduring sorrow. After living in Yan Tin Apartments and later Da Yuan Apartments, she adopted Fangmei Xun, an orphanage peer who now assists at the temple and views Xiuying as a role model.

A martial arts master by age 26—among the youngest school successors—Xiuying specializes in Taijiquan and Bajiquan. Her philosophy rejects vengeance, teaching martial arts as life protection instead. Deeply knowledgeable in Taoism, history, and internal martial arts, she exhibits a reserved, thoughtful personality with underlying melancholy, rarely showing strong emotions.

When Ryo Hazuki arrives seeking "Lishao Tao" on Master Chen's advice, he mistakes her for a man. She requires him to learn the four Wude via Hanhui Liu before revealing her identity. Allowing him to stay in her temple room for chores like airing books, she recognizes his revenge quest against Lan Di and repeatedly warns him of his inadequate skills and self-destructive path. Despite reluctance, she trains him in mind, body, and spirit: guiding leaf-catching exercises for focus and sparring to demonstrate superiority, including paralyzing him with pressure-point strikes to emphasize his limitations.

Xiuying aids Ryo multiple times, traveling to Kowloon to save him from Dou Niu and sheltering him in her Thousand White Building childhood chapel while reiterating her warnings. Upon Ryo's Hong Kong departure, she gives him her Yin-Yang stone half without disclosing its ties to Ziming. Later, via a Shenmue III phone call with Fangmei, she voices concern for Ryo's journey, which Fangmei relays to him.

Her character design—including the moonlight-inspired blue robe—originated during the series' Sega Saturn development phase. Personal details include a Gemini zodiac sign, birth in the Year of the Rat, and blood type A.
