Description
Originating from a middle school doodle of a friend's father by Osamu Tezuka, the recurring character Higeoyaji, real name Shunsaku Ban, sports a bald head and prominent mustache. He possesses a temperamental nature fiercely driven by justice, frequently appearing as a detective or investigator. In the "Fumoon" anime adaptation of Tezuka's "Next World," he acts as private detective and uncle to Kenichi. Higeoyaji accompanies Dr. Yamadano to investigate ecological disturbances on atomic-testing-scarred Bateito Island, where a new species, the Fumoon, has emerged. Witnessing a Fumoon escape the lab, he pursues it into a rain-soaked yard only to be abducted alongside the creature by a space gondola, prompting Kenichi's search.
Transported to Bateito Island, Higeoyaji is held captive with Kenichi and Peach (Pinoko) in an underground Fumoon base. He learns of a lethal gas cloud approaching Earth and the Fumoon's plan to evacuate animal species. Later, he saves the Fumoon leader Rococo from Uran Federation forces during a mission to recover captured animals, showcasing his protective instincts.
Facing the impending gas cloud, Higeoyaji joins efforts to build a deflection rocket. He helps counter public panic and sabotage attempts by opportunistic businessman Kei Gamata. His actions aid Rococo and the human team in deploying an electronic barrier and anti-gravity technology to divert the cloud, contributing to Earth's survival.
Across his appearances, Higeoyaji consistently blends comical exasperation with unwavering moral courage, especially when confronting injustice or planetary threats.
