X originated as the Machine Empire's most powerful mechanical being (B't), modeled after the mythical kirin—a winged horse destined to rescue humanity during chaos. Its original blood donor was Karen, the Spirit General of the West, and it obeyed only her commands. Five years before the main events, X and Karen attempted to escape the Empire but crashed into the sea. Karen survived and reached Kamui Island, while the Empire recovered X. Deemed useless without Karen's blood, it was discarded into a scrap pile.
X remained dormant in the scrapyard until Teppei Takamiya, injured during an Empire attack, bled onto its damaged frame. Teppei's blood, containing traces of Karen's from a prior transfusion, revived X. Initially reluctant and distrustful, X nevertheless rescued Teppei from immediate danger, forging a forced partnership. This marked the start of their symbiotic relationship.
Sustaining critical damage during battles en route to the Machine Empire's core territory ("The Area"), X eventually ceased functioning.
