Description
Eijiro Kashiwaba steps in as interim coach for Meisei High’s baseball team following Nishio’s sudden illness, recruited on Nishio’s endorsement. His arrival sparks mistaken identity, fueling team expectations of his celebrated older brother Eiichiro—a former star athlete—yet Eijiro’s own history with Meisei remains shadowed by personal conflict. Expelled from the team during his student years, he harbors festering grudges against the program.

Eijiro imposes merciless regimens and Spartan discipline, prioritizing punishing drills over player welfare. He swiftly strips Minami of managerial duties, enforces obedience through corporal punishment for perceived slacking—striking Tatsuya and Nishimura—and redeploys Tatsuya from his pitcher’s mound, destabilizing the team’s cohesion. Morale plummets, shattering camaraderie and triggering mass resignations.

His harshness stems from cryptic motives, with narrative parallels linking his fractured bond with Eiichiro to the Uesugi twins’ rivalry, though their paths starkly contrast. While his draconian methods propel competitive gains, they extinguish the players’ passion for the sport. Subtext hints at formative betrayals during his own baseball career, though specifics remain veiled.

The story denies Eijiro redemption or clear resolution, preserving his moral ambiguity. His obscured motivations and internal strife cement his role as a destabilizing force, clashing against the team’s resilience. The narrative dissects his corrosive influence on their trajectory without unraveling his true intentions or final destiny.
