Description
Ren Wuying, known as "Ren of Heavens" or simply Ren, leads the Heavens gang from Beverly Hills Wharf in Aberdeen. He wears his long black hair in a ponytail, a white bandana, and a distinctive blue short-sleeve Chinese jacket adorned with a winged red horse on the back. His outfit includes a beaded necklace, green baggy pants, brown boots, and multiple belts with a pouch holding his knife. Standing 175 cm tall, Ren exudes a charismatic yet intimidating presence, feared across Hong Kong for his dangerous reputation and street-smart nature.

Initially portrayed as a greedy, self-serving thief fixated on money, Ren employs deception like double-sided coins to rig bets. He flares at being ordered around and carries a knife for combat and intimidation. Despite this ruthless exterior, he occasionally reveals hidden compassion, such as gifting his prized Mini Afterburner arcade win to an orphan to bring happiness.

Ren first meets Ryo Hazuki when Ryo seeks information on Yuanda Zhu. After swindling Ryo out of $500, Ren attacks him but relents if Ryo proves his martial skill. He later lures Ryo into a trap during a Yellow Heads deal, steals the transaction money, and abandons Ryo to face the fallout. A rooftop chase ends with both falling onto a truck, where Ren spots Ryo's Phoenix Mirror. Learning of Ryo's quest for revenge against Chi You Men member Lan Di, Ren agrees to help, anticipating significant treasure.

In Kowloon, Ren reunites with Ryo, aiding his investigation into Zhu's kidnapping by the Yellow Heads. Captured and handcuffed together, they escape Dou Niu and Yuan through a dangerous rooftop jump. Ren recruits Wong to pick their lock and later helps infiltrate the Yellow Head Building via sewers. During the assault, he disarms opponents while Ryo rescues Zhu, culminating in a rooftop confrontation with Lan Di. His involvement shifts from self-interest to genuine, though reluctant, loyalty to Ryo.

Ren reappears in Niaowu during the pursuit of Lan Di and Shenhua's father. He assists Ryo against the Red Snakes and infiltrating the Chi You Men's castle. When Lan Di overpowers Ryo in their final fight, Ren intervenes repeatedly: distracting Lan Di with a fake Phoenix Mirror, throwing the real mirror away to save Ryo, and physically pushing him to safety as the castle burns, marking his transition from mercenary to selfless ally.

In animated adaptations, Ren's protective instincts toward Ryo are heightened. He stops Dou Niu from attacking Ryo during a rooftop standoff, calming Ryo's anger and strengthening their bond. He frequently shouts "Junnen Hayai da yo" during combat, reflecting his assertive personality. His journey emphasizes gradual growth from a solitary criminal to a committed friend prioritizing Ryo's safety over personal gain.
