Bopobo, a death row convict relegated to life imprisonment within Greed Island’s unorthodox penal system, bore a history of heinous crimes: eleven documented cases spanning rape, armed robbery, and murder. His imposing frame—bulky, muscular, and obese—paired with a barefoot, tank-topped appearance, mirrored the rugged aesthetic of his pirate cohorts.
Brash and prideful, Bopobo harbored a vengeful streak, his volatile temper frequently eclipsing self-preservation. Though subservient to his superior, Razor, rage often propelled him into reckless acts. During a Soufrabi challenge, he encircled the arena in flames, demanding players defeat him in sumo to reach Razor. After brutalizing Enhancer Zeho by dangling him above the fire, Gon intervened, sacrificing his own eligibility by stepping out of bounds. This allowed Killua to retaliate, igniting Bopobo’s face with alcohol and electricity to force him from the ring.
Humiliated, Bopobo later demanded a rematch during Razor’s trials. Killua’s deliberate loss in their second clash deepened his fury. When Gon and Killua returned with allies, Bopobo provoked insurrection by insinuating Greed Island’s connection to the real world—a taboo breach. Razor executed him for this betrayal, crushing his skull with a Nen ball in the manga and 1999 anime; the 2011 adaptation depicted his head exploding.
As an Enhancer, Bopobo wielded Ten, Ren, and Ken to amplify his physical durability, leveraging his bulk to dominate novice Nen users. Though resistant to Gon’s strikes and flame-induced injuries, his sluggishness and tactical rigidity left him vulnerable to Killua’s swift precision.
Tasked with masquerading as a non-player character under Razor’s command, Bopobo tested challengers while upholding Greed Island’s facade as a punitive game. His violent conduct inadvertently reinforced the prison’s structure, a irony Razor later underscored by likening their shared moral compromises, framing Bopobo’s demise as a consequence of their entwined, brutal histories.
