Kyoko Hayakawa, a student at Seiran Girl School, is a former sukeban who led a girls' gang prior to the series. Her delicate, feminine appearance often draws unwanted attention from delinquents, masking a notably tough and resilient core. A pivotal moment occurs when Shinji Itō intervenes to save her from threatening individuals, enduring a beating in the process. This act sparks a romance between Kyoko and Itō near the series' start. She becomes his deeply concerned girlfriend, constantly worrying about his safety in fights and urging him to avoid violence. Her love and protectiveness towards Itō are central.
Kyoko's parents know of and approve her relationship with Itō. Their approval stems partly from relief that she dates him instead of his more cunning, self-serving friend, Takashi Mitsuhashi, highlighting the contrast between the two. Kyoko's role remains consistently tied to her relationship with Itō, emphasizing her worry and support. While her background as a former gang leader informs her understanding of the delinquent world, it does not prominently feature in her ongoing interactions or development, which is largely defined by her connection to Itō.
