Description
Kitafuro belongs to the Siberian Yagyu clan, exiled from Japan centuries ago after conflict with the Edo Yagyu. He burns with a vendetta against Yagyu Jubei, blaming this historical figure for his clan's suffering, a hatred now directed at Jiyu Nanohana as the current inheritor of Jubei's legacy via the Lovely Eyepatch.
Trained in swordsmanship by Kita Ressai, the Northern Yagyu leader, Ressai shaped Kitafuro's skills and his unyielding drive for vengeance. He relentlessly pursues duels with Jiyu, convinced defeating her will settle the ancient score, but suffers repeated defeats by both Jiyu (as Jubei-chan) and Freesia Yagyu, another claimant to the Jubei mantle.
Confusion over the true Jubei successor complicates his quest, leading him to confront both Jiyu and Freesia. This uncertainty sometimes triggers impulsive actions and misadventures, like crashing into trees during pursuits. A pivotal flashback reveals his childhood encounter with the original Yagyu Jubei, resurfacing as his training intensifies and his desperation peaks, culminating in him invoking his father's power against his rivals.
His arc reaches its climax through possession. The spirit of Kita Ressai seizes control of Kitafuro's body, transforming him into a giant ice monster for a final battle against the Jubei successors, physically manifesting the clan's centuries-old hatred. Defeated by Jiyu and Freesia working together, the Ressai spirit is vanquished, freeing Kitafuro from its control and his inherited hatred. Released from vengeance's burden, he seeks one final, personal duel with Jiyu. Losing this duel honorably brings catharsis, allowing him to abandon his vengeful path.
His story concludes with a profound change. Having moved beyond his clan's legacy of hatred, he finds new purpose by joining the police force, symbolizing his integration into peaceful society.
