Description
Miyu appears across multiple adaptations. In the 1999 short film, she is a young Tokyo office worker living alone. Discovering a white stray cat named Chobi during spring rain, she adopts him. She navigates urban isolation while commuting daily. An emotionally significant autumn phone call triggers a depressive episode, where Chobi offers silent companionship. By winter, she regains stability in her routine, sharing a contented life with the cat.

The 2016 anime series "Everything Flows" expands her story. As a child, after her father's death, her mother brings home a black kitten named Daru. Miyu resents Daru initially for breaking her father's mug but later bonds with the cat, leading to her first friendship with classmate Tomoka. As a young adult, Miyu shares an apartment with Tomoka while job-hunting after college. When Tomoka moves out to live with her boyfriend, Miyu faces financial strain and repeated job rejections. Strained relations with her mother, possibly over her mother's remarriage plans, compound her severe depression, causing social withdrawal and her absence from Tomoka's wedding. Dying Daru activates her phone to contact her mother, facilitating their reconciliation. One year later, employed and emotionally recovered, Miyu adopts another white cat during rainy weather, implied as Daru's reincarnation.

The manga continuation shows Miyu living with the newly adopted Chobi. Her mother's remarriage remains a source of conflict between them, contrasting with the anime's earlier resolution. Her professional life stabilizes through office work, though her emotional resilience continues to depend on feline companionship.

The novel adaptation depicts Miyu working with documents and struggling with interpersonal communication, hindering romantic relationships. Adopting street cat Chobi reveals her kindness and subtle loneliness through the cat's perspective. Chobi's presence gradually empowers her to voice suppressed emotions and make decisive changes, including ending an unfulfilling relationship. Her storyline intersects with other neighborhood residents, emphasizing community connections facilitated by cats.

Across all media, her trajectory explores solitude, grief, and gradual emotional healing. Feline companions consistently catalyze her human connections and personal growth, often during transitional seasons and weather events like rain. Her professional evolution from early unemployment to stable office positions parallels her emotional development.
