Description
Makiko Tadokoro lingers in her home as a restless spirit, bound to the living world by unresolved attachments to her husband, Ichirou, after her death from food poisoning. In life, she passed her days fixated on the television screen in their living room—a habit persisting in her spectral existence. Though Ichirou initially remains oblivious to her presence, he avoids the house, unsettled by an intangible unease he cannot name.

His avoidance grows when Hitomi Momoi, a subordinate from work, begins visiting him regularly. Makiko’s suspicions of infidelity drive her to torment Ichirou’s colleagues, invading their dreams as a gaunt elderly figure who publicly denounces Hitomi as a homewrecker. Subsequent inquiries uncover Hitomi’s true motive: rekindling a past romance with an ex-lover residing nearby, not pursuing Ichirou.

This revelation prompts Makiko to confront the hollow reality of her arranged marriage, devoid of emotional intimacy, and contrast it with Hitomi’s earnest reconciliation. Her spectral tether finally loosens upon observing Ichirou shed quiet tears alone—a faint display of emotion hinting at a belated, if muted, recognition of their shared history—allowing her spirit to dissolve into peace.
