Description
Mrs. Kobato, a doctor's wife and mother of one, resides in Toriai Mansion. As a newcomer, she attempts polite introductions to key figures like Mrs. Shiratori (management committee chairman) and Mrs. Ukai (elderly neighbor), disregarding warnings about their feud. Her well-intentioned but naive approach entangles her in their conflict after she assists another resident, Kamoshita, whom Shiratori bullies into excessive cleaning duties.

When Mrs. Ukai suffers a fall and is hospitalized, she lends Mrs. Kobato her mynah bird, Kyū—a gesture of gratitude potentially serving to delegate its care. The bird becomes central to the conflict after inadvertently uttering "Kanishabu," which Mrs. Kobato mistakenly believes is a magical deterrent against Shiratori’s harassment. This misunderstanding escalates tension, culminating in Shiratori sabotaging the condominium’s trash area upon overhearing the bird.

Mrs. Kobato transitions from a passive newcomer to a proactive challenger of the condominium’s hierarchy. She refuses Shiratori’s bullying, even when falsely accused of neglecting cleaning duties while ill. Her persistence, alongside Kamoshita, exposes Shiratori’s secret: Shiratori consumed a live crab intended for Ukai that had escaped onto her balcony. This revelation forces Shiratori to clean the trashed area herself to prevent public humiliation.

Ultimately, Mrs. Kobato’s actions contribute to Shiratori’s departure and improve resident dynamics. The resolution finds Mrs. Kobato, Ukai, and Kamoshita sharing a crab meal ("Kanishabu"), with Mrs. Kobato reflecting on Ukai’s true motive for lending Kyū.
