Her well-intentioned but naive approach entangles her in their conflict after she assists another resident, Kamoshita, whom Shiratori bullies into excessive cleaning duties.

When Mrs. Ukai suffers a fall and is hospitalized, she lends Mrs. Kobato her mynah bird, Kyū—a gesture of gratitude potentially serving to delegate its care. The bird becomes central to the conflict after inadvertently uttering "Kanishabu," which Mrs. Kobato mistakenly believes is a magical deterrent against Shiratori’s harassment. This misunderstanding escalates tension, culminating in Shiratori sabotaging the condominium’s trash area upon overhearing the bird.
