Description
Gideon Ragnason, known almost exclusively by his alias Red, is the central character of the story. He is a 21-year-old human who once served as a knight and the vice-captain of the Bahamut Knights before becoming a D-rank adventurer in the frontier town of Zoltan. He now makes a quiet living gathering and selling medicinal herbs, with the modest dream of one day opening his own apothecary shop and living a peaceful, uneventful life.

Red's personality is defined by his humility, compassion, and selflessness. He is naturally affable and considers the well-being of others a priority, often placing it above his own pride or status. This gentle and dependable nature made him the emotional cornerstone of the Hero's Party and continues to endear him to the citizens of Zoltan. Despite his formidable skills, he is unassuming and struggles with significant self-doubt, genuinely believing he was a burden to his former companions due to the limitations of his divine blessing. He is completely disinterested in fame, rising through the adventurer ranks, or defeating the Demon Lord, and he becomes uneasy when forced into the spotlight.

His primary motivations are simple: to live a quiet life running an apothecary with Rit, the woman he loves, and to ensure the well-being of his younger sister, Ruti. He was not truly banished from the Hero's Party in a traditional sense but was instead manipulated and pressured into leaving by a companion, the sage Ares, who convinced him that his presence was holding the others back. Wishing to avoid disgrace for his knightly order, he left his equipment behind, adopted the alias Red, and retreated to the remote region of Zoltan to start a new life.

In the story, Red serves as the protagonist whose past life as the knight Gideon continually intersects with his present-day peace. His role often involves using his vast experience to protect his new life and loved ones from threats that arise, whether they are powerful monsters or figures from his past. He is the anchor for key relationships, particularly with Rit (Rizlet), a former princess and adventurer who seeks him out in Zoltan. Their relationship is a central focus, developing from a deep, pre-existing respect into a sincere and intimate partnership, free from prolonged courtship clichés. Another critical relationship is with his sister, Ruti, the Hero. Red understands the curse-like nature of her blessing, which suppresses her emotions, and he remains her primary source of emotional stability and support. His dedication to her is a profound motivation, leading him to directly confront and ultimately kill Ares to protect her from the sage's machinations.

Throughout the narrative, Red undergoes a significant internal development. Initially burdened by feelings of inadequacy and believing himself to be useless, he gradually gains confidence by building a new life where he is valued for his skills. His journey is not about becoming more powerful, but about accepting that a peaceful, supportive life is valid and worthy, allowing him to shed his past regrets and wholeheartedly embrace his future with Rit.

Notably, Red's abilities are intimately tied to his unique divine blessing known as the Sign of the Guide. This blessing gave him a massive head start by granting a starting level of 31, meaning he was born as strong as a seasoned knight. However, it provided him with no unique skills, capped his growth potential, and does not compel him toward any particular action, unlike other blessings. To compensate, Red has mastered several "common skills" to a high degree. These include Swift Mastery, allowing him to run up to 240 kilometers per hour; Endurance Mastery, granting near-immunity to physical fatigue; First Aid Mastery, which lets him perform miraculous emergency medical treatment; and Acrobatics Mastery, which includes a Slow Fall ability. He is also a highly skilled and analytical swordsman, capable of defeating much stronger enemies through tactics, experience, and knowledge of his opponents' weaknesses, often while wielding nothing more than a cheap copper sword. His primary weakness is his inability to use any form of offensive or supportive magic, which puts him at a severe disadvantage against magic users.
