Description
Doubleclouder began as a Transtector, a lifeless robotic body, bonded to the human teenager Clouder using Master-Braces. This bond harnessed Chōkon Power for transformation. Clouder possessed a mysterious background with implied ties to the United States Department of Defense, granting him access to classified Transformer battle footage. He discovered the Transtector under unexplained circumstances, hiding it behind a waterfall before activation.
Clouder's unique Master-Braces displayed both Autobot and Decepticon insignias. This allowed him to summon two distinct Godmaster armor sets, unlocking two transformations for the Transtector: a humanoid Autobot robot and a Decepticon eagle. This dual nature led to the combined entity being named Doubleclouder. Initially attracted by the Decepticons' perceived power, Clouder infiltrated the Autobots under Giga's orders. He sabotaged their base, planted explosives, and transmitted intelligence, triggering a Decepticon assault. Abandoned during the base's destruction, the Autobots rescued him despite his betrayal. Witnessing their compassion prompted Clouder to defect.
Seeking redemption, Clouder tried to expose the Decepticon base location. Captured alongside Shūta, he was later rescued by Ginrai and the turncoat Cancer. In the final battle against Devil Z at the Decepticon base, Clouder used his eagle mode's flight capability to deliver jet boosters to trapped Autobots. Later, at the Grand Canyon, Devil Z used Devil Power to strip Clouder, Cancer, Wilder, and Bullhorn of their Master-Braces. This act forcibly separated the humans from their Transtectors and imbued the robotic bodies with independent life. The newly sentient Doubleclouder Transtector, retaining Clouder's personality traits, joined the Decepticons and fled Earth with them following Devil Z's defeat.
In post-Masterforce continuities, specifically the *Legends* comics, Clouder reappeared years later as a Major in the Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF). He commanded drone units against threats like Trypticon and Kickback's clone army. During these events, he secretly resumed his role as "Doubleclouder," acting as a double agent for a revived Devil Z, Giga, and Mega while maintaining his JSDF position.
The Doubleclouder Transtector's physical design enabled transformation into a dark-green missile trailer vehicle, a humanoid robot, or a mechanical eagle ("Decepti-condor"). Its toy featured distinct deco differences from its Western counterpart, Doubledealer, including white plastic replacing grey, additional silver paint, and a golden chrome chestplate. Despite these toy colors, the animated series depicted the Transtector with Doubledealer's color scheme.
