OVA
Description
Long Haul functions as a Decepticon Constructicon, specializing in transport and construction vital to Decepticon campaigns. He secretly craves frontline combat glory, finding his current role unexciting, but keeps these desires hidden from the intolerant Megatron.

Frequently dissatisfied in Generation 1 media, especially during debris removal or menial tasks instead of engineering or combat, his grumbling surpasses even Scavenger's in episodes like "City of Steel" and "The Autobot Run." His operational history includes supercharging Megatron ("Heavy Metal War"), constructing New Cybertron in Manhattan, and building weapons like the Transfixatron and a planetary drill. He notably failed guarding electrum in "The Golden Lagoon," allowing Autobots to seize it.

Approximately nine million years before Earth, Long Haul and fellow Constructicons were engineers in Crystal City on Cybertron, allied with Omega Supreme. Megatron's Robo-Smasher reprogrammed them into Decepticons, granting them the ability to merge into Devastator. They then destroyed Crystal City, earning Omega Supreme's enduring enmity.

In the 1986 OVA "Scramble City: Mobilization," Long Haul participated in the Constructicons' attack on the Autobots' Scramble City under Megatron's orders. After merging into Devastator, they were defeated by the Aerialbots' Superion, forcing a retreat. This occurred during early Autobot City construction, years before "The Transformers: The Movie."

In Marvel Comics, Shockwave created Long Haul on Earth using materials from an aerospace plant and the Creation Matrix. He later served Soundwave, Galvatron, and Ratbat, participating in operations like the Dinobot Hunt and Underbase Saga. Dreamwave Comics depicted him building gladiatorial arenas in pre-war Kaon and engaging in urban destruction during Megatron's Earth campaigns. IDW Comics iterations showed him constructing mobile battle arenas for Cybertronian gladiators and joining Earth-based assaults under Megatron.

His role in Devastator varies: typically the torso or lower body in animation, but depicted as the crotch component in some comics. His alternate mode is consistently an off-road dump truck. Despite combat aspirations, documented weaknesses include sluggish mobility and susceptibility to provocation about his duties, impairing his effectiveness.

In Japanese continuities ("The Headmasters"), Long Haul operated on Earth under Sixshot's command in 2011, attempting to thwart Autobot reinforcements. He later participated in combiner battles on Cybertron until Devastator's destruction by Battleship Maximus.
