Description
Futaba Fukumoto is an elementary school student, introduced in fifth grade and advancing to sixth. She stands 135 cm tall and was born on May 12, making her a Taurus. She has medium-length reddish-brown hair, golden-yellow eyes, and wears a distinctive white triangular hair clip in her bangs; she previously often wore her hair in a ponytail.

Born into the family running the "Tsurifuku" fishing boat business, she is the younger sister of Ichika Fukumoto, with a twelve-year age difference. Skilled at bait fishing from a young age and frequently playing soccer with boys, peer pressure in fifth grade caused her embarrassment and social isolation as classmates disapproved of girls fishing or playing with boys. This led her to abandon her hobbies, become more introverted, and change her hairstyle.

Academically strong and athletically proficient, she is considered an all-around model student. Despite her reserved nature, she learns quickly, especially fishing techniques, and possesses knowledge of marine life like preparing and eating raw razor clams.

Her character development focuses on regaining confidence through relationships. Meeting Hiyori Minagi proves pivotal, as Hiyori's reassurance that girls can enjoy fishing helps Futaba reclaim her interests. She gradually resumes fishing, joining Hiyori for live-bait collection and participating in group trips. On a boat excursion, she demonstrates her expertise by assisting others with bait. She admires Hiyori significantly but feels occasional jealousy of Hiyori's closeness with Koi Yoshinaga, whom she perceives as "sneaky."

She shares a loving but complex bond with her older sister Ichika. Futaba worries Ichika is overly lenient and irresponsible, a concern echoed by their mother, and attempts to adopt a stricter stance with mixed results. She values friendships, notably with classmate Aiko Ninomiya. Though Aiko dislikes touching insects or fish, she accompanies Futaba on fishing outings to strengthen their bond. During a school culture festival, Futaba initially hesitates to read an essay publicly. Gaining courage after a fishing trip with Hiyori, where she guides Hiyori stepping outside her comfort zone, Futaba successfully presents her essay.

Her involvement extends to group activities like a girls' camping trip after the festival and a fishing competition with peers. These experiences help her evolve from a withdrawn child to someone who openly embraces her passions, balancing academic diligence with recreational joy. Physical maturation is noted as she grows from age 11 to 12.
