Description
Noé stands as a righteous figure obedient to divine commands within a corrupt pre-flood world. He receives a divine warning of an impending global deluge and instructions to build a massive ark to save his family and preserve animal species. This monumental task requires immense faith, undertaken without prior experience of rain or large-scale shipbuilding.
He faces skepticism and active opposition from mocking neighbors who consider sabotage. Even within his family, initial doubts arise, particularly from his son Ham. The ark's construction completes within a remarkably condensed seven-day period. During this time, Noé experiences a divine vision revealing the ark's design as a sketched white line across the sky.
Noé gathers male and female representatives of every land animal species onto the ark before the floodwaters begin. The boarding includes lighter moments like concerns over scorpions and observations of unusual animal behavior. As the flood erupts from both torrential rain and subterranean waters, the family witnesses the destruction outside; Shem and his wife mourn lost acquaintances. Inside the ark, challenges emerge, including food shortages prompting discussions about future farming. A minor subplot involves a fox finding a mate just before boarding, though this thread concludes without further effect on Noé.
After the flood recedes and the ark grounds on a mountain, Noé's first act is constructing an altar to offer sacrifices in gratitude and worship. He receives a divine covenant, symbolized by a rainbow, promising no future global floods. He then plants a vineyard. The narrative concludes here with the covenant established, omitting later events like drunkenness or conflict with Ham.
