Description
Bernard Monsha is a veteran Earth Federation Forces mobile suit pilot who fought in the One Year War within South Burning's squadron alongside Alpha A. Bait and Chap Adel. He lost his romantic partner, Francois, during the Battle of Solomon. Post-war, Monsha, Bait, and Adel stayed together while Burning transferred to Torrington Base in Australia. After Zeon remnants stole the RX-78GP02A Gundam "Physalis," Monsha's squadron reassigned to the assault carrier Albion for recovery, reuniting him with Burning.
Monsha displays an abrasive personality marked by arrogance, womanizing, drunkenness, and mocking non-veterans. Supremely confident in his piloting, he demanded assignment to the advanced RX-78GP01 Gundam "Zephyranthes" upon reaching Torrington. This arrogance caused tactical errors, like falling into a Zeon trap during pursuit. He developed a rivalry with rookie Kou Uraki, stemming from Uraki piloting the Zephyranthes and his relationship with engineer Nina Purpleton, whom Monsha repeatedly sexually harassed. Their rivalry peaked in a paintball match where Monsha lost to the less experienced Uraki, resulting in both pilots' confinement.
During Operation Stardust aboard the Albion, Monsha engaged in combat operations. After Uraki severely damaged the Zephyranthes, a drunken Monsha berated him. Monsha's attitude toward Uraki softened following the death of their former commander, South Burning. He later assisted mutinous actions enabling Uraki's unauthorized deployment in the RX-78GP03 Gundam "Dendrobium" against the Delaz Fleet. Post-operation, Monsha joined the newly formed Titans elite unit with most Albion personnel.
Expanded media reveals Monsha fighting Zeon forces who stole RMS-106 Hizacks in the manga *Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Rebellion*. After the Titans' defeat at Gryps, he fled to Mars with other remnants. Joining the ReZeon movement under the alias "Donald," he required a crutch to walk due to unspecified service injuries.
Trivia notes include Monsha owning a pet chameleon named Mary, inspiring his One Year War unit, the Immortal 4th Team's emblem. His personality appears less abrasive in crossovers like the *Super Robot Wars* series, where he serves as a combat instructor but retains his bombastic demeanor.
