Description
Marimeia Barton Khushrenada, publicly known as Marimeia Barton before the Mariemaia Rebellion, was presented as the daughter of Treize Khushrenada and Leia Barton. Her mother died when she was two, leaving Marimeia in the care of her maternal grandfather, Dekim Barton. Dekim raised her to believe her destiny was fulfilling her father's legacy by ruling the Earth Sphere, positioning her as the figurehead leader of his private army, the Mariemaia Army. Unbeknownst to her, Dekim saw her solely as a political puppet to rule through.

Raised under Dekim's influence, Marimeia developed extreme confidence and pride. She carried herself with a dignity unusual for her age, often appearing to look down on others. Yet, as a seven-year-old during the rebellion, her childish nature occasionally surfaced beneath this cultivated facade. A treasured music box, a Christmas gift from her mother, remained her constant tangible link to Leia.

In December A.C. 196, one year after Treize Khushrenada's death and the founding of the pacifist Earth Sphere Unified Nation (ESUN), Dekim and Marimeia initiated their rebellion. Loyalists kidnapped ESUN Vice-Foreign Minister Relena Darlian on Colony X-18999. Marimeia then broadcast a declaration of war across the Earth Sphere, revealing her identity as Treize's daughter and proclaiming X-18999's independence. Her forces, equipped with hundreds of MMS-01 Serpent mobile suits, rapidly seized the ESUN presidential office in Brussels.

During the occupation, Marimeia confronted Relena in the presidential office's underground shelter, articulating her view of history as an "endless waltz" – a perpetual cycle of war, peace, and revolution. She declared her intent to break this cycle by ascending as world leader. Her confidence seemed unwavering even as Preventer agents and Gundam pilots attacked her forces. However, Heero Yuy piloting the damaged Wing Zero breached the fortified shelter with precise attacks, exposing Marimeia to direct danger and triggering visible terror.

In the ensuing chaos, Dekim urged her to assert her role as ruler, but she moved forward stiffly, her eyes empty. Relena intervened, slapping Marimeia to awaken her to reality. When Dekim attempted to shoot Relena, Marimeia stepped in and took the bullet, collapsing from the wound. Dekim callously dismissed her sacrifice, stating he could create another Marimeia, but was immediately killed by one of his officers. Marimeia survived the injury, though it left her temporarily wheelchair-bound. After the rebellion's defeat, she expressed remorse to Relena and adopted a significantly more humble demeanor.

Lady Une subsequently took Marimeia to visit Treize Khushrenada's grave in A.C. 197, marking a new phase in her life under Une's guardianship.

Official records identify her as Treize and Leia's biological child, originating from a chance meeting on Colony X-18999 as depicted in the *Episode Zero* manga. However, inconsistencies and statements cast doubt on this. Dekim's dying remark – "I created her" – coupled with a soldier's accusation in the manga adaptation that she was "just a kid he picked up off the street," suggests she may have been an unrelated orphan groomed for the role. Physical discrepancies, such as her hair and eye color not matching the obscured image of Leia Barton's known traits (tan hair), further fuel ambiguity. Her true origins remain unresolved across official media.
