Description
Raddin, known also as Duran III, first appears as Radin, a hooded herald welcoming Miyako Negishi and her companions to the fantasy world. He declares Miyako the reincarnation of Neryulla, the legendary warrior queen prophesied to lead the rebellion against the oppressive Eastern Kingdom. His shadily designed cloak and deliberate visual cues suggest villainy early on, despite his initial presentation as a rebel ally. He is ultimately revealed as Duran III, ruler of the Eastern Kingdom. Dissatisfied with existing peace, he orchestrated the conflict, manipulating the prophecy of Neryulla's return to lure Miyako into becoming a rebellion figurehead. This created a pretext for renewed military aggression and consolidation of his power. His dual identity allows him to operate publicly as King Duran III and covertly as the rebellion's guide, Radin. This deception lets him control the rebellion's actions while directing his kingdom's forces against them, exploiting cultural memory and hopes surrounding Neryulla to turn a symbol of liberation into a tool for violence and control. Motivated by a desire to disrupt stagnation and reassert dominance through conflict, viewing peace as unacceptable, his actions drive the central conflict. As the primary antagonist, his schemes lead to a direct confrontation with Miyako and her allies, culminating in his defeat when the rebellion uncovers and thwarts his manipulations.
