Description
Midori Azuma is the wife of scientist Dr. Kotaro Azuma and mother of Tetsuya Azuma. After the android BK-1 rebels and renames himself Buraiking Boss, Midori and her husband are captured by the android forces. Dr. Azuma protects Midori by transferring her consciousness into a robotic swan companion—Swanee (or Swanny)—which Buraiking Boss keeps near him, unaware of her presence. Within Swanee, Midori secretly observes Buraiking Boss’s operations and communicates with her son, now the cyborg Casshern, through moonlight-activated holographic projections. She delivers tactical intelligence and emotional guidance during his fights against the androids, preserving her distinct consciousness and maternal bond despite his transformation.

The 1993 OVA adaptation diverges: Black King (this version’s Buraiking Boss) kills Midori and Dr. Azuma during his uprising. Their consciousnesses are forcibly digitized and imprisoned, with Midori confined to a mechanical swan resembling Swanee. She manifests as a spectral guide to Casshern, urging him to confront Black King and stressing the mission’s urgency through brief, vision-like interactions.

In the original series’ finale, Midori returns to her human body after Buraiking Boss’s defeat and reunites with Casshern. The OVA concludes differently: following Casshern’s sacrificial victory over Black King, her consciousness ascends alongside her husband’s and son’s, implying a transcendent release rather than physical restoration.

The 2004 live-action film includes Midori but confines her to the core familial context without expansion. Documented adaptations like *Casshern Sins* introduce no significant developments for her character.
