Description
Princess Arete, a young royal imprisoned in her father’s tower, watches the world from solitary heights, her days defined by an arranged future. Bound to wed whichever suitor secures magical relics, she nurtures a restless curiosity about the life unfolding beyond her walls. Defying isolation, she slips into the town below, drawn by stories of ancient sorcery and witches devoured in secret from forbidden books. Her clandestine explorations fuel a growing rebellion against the passive role she’s destined to occupy.

A failed escape—intercepted by guards—culminates in a meeting with Boax, a sorcerer masquerading as a suitor. Aware of a prophecy naming her the end to his immortality, he enchants her to erase her defiance, molding her into an obedient figurehead. Yet traces of her resolve linger beneath the spell. Transported to his castle and confined in a dungeon, she bonds with Ample, a villager exposing Boax’s fragile pact: water traded for food. Witnessing Ample’s relentless well-digging, she begins shedding complacency. A witch’s ring shatters Boax’s magic, reigniting her agency.

When tasked to claim a ruby from a golden eagle, she instead uncovers the origin of Boax’s enchanted water. Confronted, the sorcerer unravels—a once-gifted child haunted by his civilization’s collapse, his powers diminished. In despair, he triggers the castle’s destruction, unleashing a flood that sweeps away his immortality gem. Freed from prophecies and control, Arete refuses return to her gilded cage. She departs alone, embracing labor and exploration as tools to carve her own path.

Her evolution weaves curiosity into cunning, passivity into pragmatism. Patriarchal dictates and manipulation hone her understanding of autonomy: not as a prize to be won, but a practice forged through choice. Rejecting rescuer and tyrant alike, she steps beyond scripted destinies, determined to write her story through hands-on experience—a sovereign self, unbeholden to tower or tradition.
