TV Special
Description
Mitsuki Sanada, daughter of Ken and Ayuko Sanada in her original world, harbors significant resentment toward her mother after Ayuko abandoned the family, straining their relationship. This fuels her strong attachment to her father, whom she diligently cares for.
In her home world, Mitsuki is the most popular girl at school, frequently receiving romantic attention from male classmates, though she largely rebuffs their advances. She initially approaches classmate Kazuki Yotsuga under false pretenses, feigning interest in his giant robot visions. Her true motive is to lure him to her father for research on parallel universes. An accident with her father's device transports both to a parallel world, though Mitsuki arrives one month earlier than Kazuki for unexplained reasons.
Within the parallel world, Mitsuki joins the Earth Defense Force as an exceptional pilot, operating the red Core Robot #2. Her primary goal is ending the war swiftly to enable research for their return home. Despite no biological relation to this world's Ken Sanada, she persistently calls him "dad" while serving under his command. Mitsuki develops romantic feelings for Kazuki but masks them with abrasive behavior and frequent jealous outbursts, particularly toward women like Yayoi Schwael, D, or Mitsuki Rara who show interest in him. This manifests as possessiveness and verbal hostility toward Kazuki.
Later captured by the Rara Army, Mitsuki is coerced by Ayuko Rara (her mother's counterpart) into piloting the advanced robot Himiko. Placed under light hypnosis but not fully brainwashed, Himiko amplifies her existing emotional volatility—especially her jealousy—leading to uncontrolled attacks against Kazuki and allies. She complicates interactions by refusing to correct Kazuki's assumption of brainwashing. During the climax, Mitsuki and Kazuki jointly activate Zinv's destruction to prevent both worlds from collapsing. Their shared, unspoken wish for their friends to remain together merges the worlds into a new reality, resolving the dimensional instability.
Mitsuki's personality blends impulsiveness, stubbornness, and emotional intensity, often driving reckless decisions. These traits are tempered by underlying loyalty and protectiveness, particularly toward Kazuki and her father. Her arc includes moments of vulnerability, such as confessing her feelings to Kazuki when temporarily returned home, though her tsundere tendencies resurface afterward.
Within Masaki Kajishima's broader universe, Mitsuki's reincarnation appears as Miki Steinbeck in the fifth season of *Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki* OVAs, establishing her presence in the shared continuity.
