Munechika Ungyōsai, uncle to Muneto Ungyōsai, emerges in the fourth episode of the original anime as a seasoned yamabushi adept in Shugendō mountain asceticism. He allies with Muneto to combat the Hybrid—a formidable offspring of the alien-human hybrid threatening Earth. Munechika’s pivotal role unfolds when the Hybrid possesses Miyuki, Kayō’s cousin and an aspiring miko. Anchored in the Ungyōsai family’s religious legacy, his actions reflect Muneto’s father’s conviction that the alien menace arises from ancestral karma. Munechika employs ancient spiritual rites to counter the supernatural forces endangering their world.
