Description
Soldat J, formally designated Soldato J-002, originated as a combat cyborg within Abel's Soldato Division on the Red Planet (Trinary Solar System). This division commanded the Ark Armada fleet and fused with J-Ark battleships to combat Z-Master's mechanization threat. Their defense failed due to coordination breakdowns among Soldato cyborgs, the bioweapon Arma, living bio-computer Tomoro, and J-Ark vessels, resulting in the planet's mechanization.
He became one of only two division survivors. After the planet's fall, he confronted mechanization leader Arm Primeval but was defeated and fled into the wastelands. Captured by his infected bio-computer, Tomoro 0117 (transformed into Zonderian Pinchernone), Soldat J underwent forced mechanization into the Zonderian Pizza, his memories and identity suppressed.
As Pizza, he exhibited a bird-like appearance featuring a beak-like facemask and clawed feet, eyes obscured beneath a baseball cap and upswept hair. His personality fixated on speed, constantly asserting superiority over rival Guy Shishioh, especially during Hyper Mode activation. He accompanied Zonderian terminal Pasder to Earth to enforce mechanization. Battles in Tokyo triggered fragmented memories when encountering Guy. Defying Pasder to protect Guy, he suffered near-fatal injuries. Arma, on Earth as Ikumi Kaidou, rescued and purified him, restoring Soldat J's original form and memories while reverting Pinchernone to Tomoro.
Regaining his identity, Soldat J recommitted to destroying Z-Master. He reunited with his team aboard the J-Ark, crashed within Japan's Mount Aso. When the 31 Machine Primevals invaded Earth, he operated independently to eliminate them, initially clashing with the Gutsy Galaxy Guard (GGG) over methods. Recognizing their shared goal, he gradually coordinated with GGG against the Primevals. During this period, he confronted and destroyed the other surviving Soldato cyborg, Soldato J-019, who pledged loyalty to Z-Master and replaced his J-Jewel with a Zonder crystal (as depicted in "Wings of Light and Darkness").
In the final battle against Z-Master, Soldat J and Kaidou entered Heart Primeval, triggering the J-Ark's Power system to overload and cascade, sacrificing themselves to destroy Z-Master from within, critically damaging King J-Der. The J-Ark survived, emerging 90 million light-years outside the universe via wormhole. Tomoro detected universal contraction from this point. Tracking the source, the J-Ark returned near Jupiter, encountering Mamoru Amami and the Pas-Q Machine. While Kaidou transported the device to Earth, Soldat J covered Mamoru's retreat but was captured by the 11 Planetary Masters of Sol and imprisoned on the repli-Earth at Mont Saint Michel.
Freed by Renais Kerdif-Shishioh and Mikoto Utsugi, Soldat J confronted Palus Abel, leader of the Masters. She revealed her control over Kaidou, using him as the core of Pia Decem Pit. Forced into combat against a mind-controlled Guy, their clash destroyed both J-Quath and the Goldion Hammer. Palus Abel remotely deactivated Soldat J's J-Jewel and the J-Ark via Kaidou, leading to their capture. Accidental proximity between Renais' G-Stone and Soldat J's J-Jewel reactivated both, enabling Hyper Modes and partially breaking Soldat J's helmet – the only instance his eyes were visible. This reactivation enabled their escape and the J-Ark's relaunch for a final confrontation aboard Pia Decem Pit.
Soldat J's abilities centered on extreme speed in both cyborg and mechanized forms. His signature weapon was the Radiant Ripper, a plasma sword generated from one or both hands. His J-Jewel enabled Hyper Mode activation. Fusion with the J-Ark allowed transformations into mechanized forms like J-Der and the more powerful King J-Der.
Key relationships included Arma/Ikumi Kaidou as his partner and purifier. With Renais Kerdif-Shishioh, he formed a battle partnership; their respective energy sources (J-Jewel and G-Stone) interacted to restore functionality. His rivalry with Guy Shishioh evolved from antagonism to reluctant alliance through shared battles against greater threats.
The character's design and concept pay homage to Cyborg 002, sharing visual elements (sharp-pointed nose, long windswept hair), acceleration-based combat style, and the numerical designation "002." The name "Soldato" derives from the Italian word for "soldier," consistent with Red Planet nomenclature like "Arma" and "Pizza."
