Miss Caroline serves as bridge crew aboard the deep-space cruiser *Saldes*, working directly under Captain Mike Hamilton. Extended periods in cryogenic suspension during missions mean she has biologically lived only one hundred and forty-one years despite significantly more calendar time passing, resulting in multiple time displacements relative to Earth. Her duties involve monitoring ship operations and responding to emergencies. When an extraterrestrial bacterial contaminant infiltrates the vessel and begins killing the crew and passengers, she participates in containment and survival efforts with the captain and other crew. As the threat escalates into a hostile, shape-shifting life-form capable of mimicking human victims, the crew combats it using improvised weaponry. Miss Caroline dies assisting in the deployment of flamethrowers against the entity.
