Description
Yakumo Tatsuro is the daughter of Dr. Daigo Tatsuro, the scientist who created the Enterrans to fight a DNA virus endangering humanity in the 22nd century. As the Human-Enterran War intensified, her father placed four-year-old Yakumo into cryogenic sleep, intended to last 30 years (50 years in some adaptations) with her aging only one year. A malfunction extended her hibernation to 300 years (500 years in some versions), resulting in her awakening physically aged 17 but retaining significant childlike mental and emotional traits due to missed developmental stages.
Struck by a meteorite fragment containing the imprisoned entity Lanancuras during infancy, Yakumo absorbed latent celestial powers during her long sleep. These abilities include telepathy, telekinesis, geokinesis, energy projection, and maintaining planetary seals. Her powers are intrinsically linked to Lanancuras' prison, requiring constant energy expenditure to reinforce the seal in the altered timeline.
Personality-wise, she exhibits profound pacifism, kindness, and naivety, often clashing with companions over the use of violence. She consistently seeks peaceful resolutions and expresses shock at cruelty. However, her resolve hardens against extreme threats, notably declaring unforgivable vengeance against the original Mushrambo after believing her allies dead. This leads her to employ lethal force against Kadrian forces threatening her friends, despite the personal toll.
Her journey involves being escorted to the sanctuary Shinzo, believed to restore humanity, by three Hyper-Enterrans: Mushra, Sago, and Kutal. She forms a close bond with Mushra, frequently mediating conflicts arising from his aggression. Their relationship deepens into mutual affection, including instances of physical intimacy. In the altered timeline following the defeat of the original Mushrambo, she encounters and protects the young girl Binka like a daughter.
Her story concludes differently across media. In the anime's second season, sustaining Lanancuras' seal fatally depletes her life force. After entrusting Binka with final guidance, she dies peacefully at sunset. Her spirit later aids Mushra in defeating Lanancuras and joins him in his sacrificial act, stating she has "reached Shinzo" – implied as spiritual ascension. Conversely, the manga depicts her surviving, marrying Mushra, and raising a daughter together in a peaceful village.
Her character draws inspiration from Tang Sanzang of *Journey to the West*, reflecting themes of pilgrimage and moral integrity.
