Description
Rei Asagiri endured a childhood marked by abandonment, raised without knowledge of her father's identity by her narcissistic mother, Ryoko Asagiri, who subjected her to abuse and withheld paternal information. This neglect and emotional trauma forced Rei into periods of homelessness and financial struggle, fostering lasting bitterness and resentment, particularly toward individuals from privileged backgrounds. Repeated rejections in her pre-debut attempts to enter the idol industry reinforced her cynical worldview that wealth and connections unfairly dictated success.

Introduced as a successful idol under Tamura Productions, Rei presents a cold, haughty, and competitive demeanor. She harbors intense animosity toward Eriko Tamura, viewing her as a spoiled heiress benefiting from unearned advantages. This manifests in verbal hostility, public humiliation, and physical confrontations, including slapping Eriko twice out of frustration and jealousy. Her stage persona, defined by darker colors like purple and featuring gothic, sultry costumes including tights, leotards, and hair ribbons, creates a stark visual contrast to Eriko's pastel aesthetic, reinforcing their dynamic as embodiments of Dark Feminine and Light Feminine archetypes. Her contempt for perceived privilege stems from witnessing industry favoritism toward the wealthy, though she makes an exception for Yuusuke Tamura (Eriko's father), who showed her genuine kindness before his death.

A significant catalyst occurs when Kosuke Tamura (Eriko's uncle) manipulates Rei by falsely claiming Yuusuke is her father, exploiting her longing for family. This intensifies her rivalry with Eriko until a pivotal New York confrontation where Eriko retaliates against a slap but then offers to accept further punishment without resistance, challenging Rei's assumptions. Kosuke is later revealed as Rei's biological father. His near-fatal act of saving her from attackers profoundly impacts Rei. This revelation, combined with witnessing Kosuke's vulnerability and Eriko's consistent compassion, initiates her emotional thawing.

Rei gradually shifts from antagonism to reluctant respect and eventual solidarity with Eriko. Key moments include intervening to protect Eriko from a falling stage light despite their feud, displaying concern when Eriko is injured, and physically supporting her during a performance. Their relationship evolves into genuine friendship, culminating in a joint venture under music producer Arthur Howard's "Rock n' Roots" project. Concurrently, Rei reconciles with her past: she gains independence from her toxic mother, who experiences a Heel Realization and departs for Kenya. Rei pursues a successful rock-oriented solo career distinct from Eriko's pop image, symbolizing her embrace of individuality and closure. Each episode concludes with a visual motif of Rei's silhouette crying, reflecting her ongoing emotional journey.

Physically, Rei is a teenage girl with shoulder-length purple hair and brown eyes. Her idol costumes emphasize a mature and glamorous image through darker colors, tights, leotards, and hair ribbons.
