Young Dohko served as the Libra Gold Saint during the 18th century Holy War against Hades, fighting alongside his close friend Aries Shion. They emerged as the conflict's sole survivors. Athena rewarded Dohko with the divine gift of Misopetha-Menos, drastically slowing his aging by reducing his heartbeats to roughly 100,000 per year instead of per day. This extended his lifespan over 243 years, leaving his body appearing aged and shrunken. Tasked with guarding the seal imprisoning Hades' 108 Specters at China's Five Peaks of Mount Lu, he later took in an orphan girl named Shunrei and trained Dragon Shiryu as his pupil.
When Hades' forces threatened the modern era, the seal broke, releasing the Specters. This event triggered Dohko's restoration: his aged form cracked and shed like a shell, revealing his original youthful physique, strength, and the formidable combat prowess he held during the previous Holy War. Gemini Saga once acknowledged him as the Saint possessing the greatest raw physical strength among the Gold Saints. Dohko mastered dragon-themed signature techniques: Rozan Shō Ryū Ha (Rising Dragon Punch), Rozan Ryū Hi Shō (Flying Dragon), and his ultimate technique, Rozan Hyaku Ryū Ha (Mount Lu Hundred Dragons Force), which unleashed one hundred cosmic dragons capable of overwhelming opponents like Shion. As the Libra Saint, he also controlled the constellation's unique arsenal—six pairs of weapons (swords, lances, nunchaku, tonfa, sansetsukon, and shields)—reserved for dire situations and governed by his innate sense of justice.
His personality balanced centuries-earned wisdom with the passionate impulsiveness of his youth. Though initially ordering Shiryu to avoid the Sanctuary battle per Athena's command, he relented upon recognizing his pupil's unwavering resolve, accepting Shiryu's assistance despite the risk. His deep bond with Shion led to a fierce confrontation when Shion was revived under Hades' control, culminating in a clash of their ultimate techniques—Hundred Dragons against Shion's Stardust Revolution—demonstrating their equal power. Beyond combat, Dohko played a pivotal strategic role: he revealed the necessity of awakening the Eighth Sense to survive in the Underworld, identified the location of Hades' true body in Elysion, and conceived the plan to breach the Wailing Wall using the combined power of the twelve Gold Cloths. In the war's climax, he sacrificed his life alongside the other Gold Saints, channeling their collective Cosmo into Sagittarius' arrow to destroy the barrier blocking access to Elysion, ensuring Athena's path to confront Hades.
