Aries Shion served as the Gold Saint of Aries during the 18th-century Holy War and later ascended to become the Grand Pope of the Sanctuary, governing for over 230 years. He trained under the Silver Saint Hakurei in Jamir, honing exceptional cloth repair skills and developing a unique psychic ability to perceive the memories and experiences of deceased Saints through contact with their damaged cloths. In his youth, he encountered the specter Balron Lune, who tempted him with knowledge of human history. After Shion hesitated, Lune attacked, leaving a neck scar. Shion survived through the intervention of the cloths and a blood transfusion from his master. As Pope, Shion spearheaded the Sanctuary's reconstruction after the 18th-century war. He trained Mu as his successor for the Aries Gold Cloth. Centuries later, he selected Sagittarius Aiolos over Gemini Saga as his papal successor after detecting latent darkness within Saga, a decision that led to his assassination by Saga shortly afterward. Resurrected by Hades alongside other deceased Gold Saints during the *Hades Chapter - Sanctuary* arc under the pretense of betraying Athena, Shion secretly orchestrated a plan to aid the goddess. He ensured Athena awakened her Eighth Sense and obtained the Athena Cloth. During this mission, he confronted his former disciple Mu and battled his old friend Libra Dohko. While appearing to fight as an enemy, Shion used the confrontation to stall for time and maintain his cover. He later revealed the truth to the Bronze Saints and restored their cloths using Athena's blood. After guiding them to invade the Underworld, his temporary body disintegrated at dawn. In the spin-off *The Lost Canvas*, Shion appears as an 18-year-old Gold Saint and close companion of Libra Dohko. He participates in the conflict against Hades, contributing to the Athena Exclamation to breach the Lost Canvas and defeating the specter Charon. During the battle at the Second Demon Temple (Venus), he confronts Balron Lune again, overcoming him using the "Praesepe Celestial Wave," a technique learned empirically from Hakurei that fuses surrounding souls into an energy sphere. Shion mastered the Seventh Sense, enabling light-speed movement and cosmic energy projection. His signature techniques were the **Crystal Wall**, a near-impenetrable telekinetic barrier capable of reflecting attacks, and the **Stardust Revolution**, which summoned stellar material to unleash a barrage of destructive strikes. He possessed advanced psychic powers for telekinesis, teleportation, and telepathy. His strategic acumen and cloth-repair expertise were integral to his role as a Saint. Shion was characterized by unwavering loyalty to Athena, strategic foresight, and a protective demeanor toward fellow Saints. He demonstrated a willingness to endure moral ambiguity and sacrifice his legacy for Athena's victory during his resurrection. He maintained a calm and analytical disposition, even when facing former allies or students.
