Description
Gan Takada, known as Gan-chan or Yatterman-1, transforms his toymaker father's unfinished rescue robot, Yatter-Wan, into a combat-ready mechanical dog. He leads the Yatterman team with his girlfriend Ai Kaminari (Yatterman-2), battling the Doronbo Gang as they gather fragments of the Skull Stone. The Gang's boss, Dokurobei, falsely claims the stone leads to immense treasure; it is actually his true form, and his goal is self-reassembly. After the Doronbo Gang collects all fragments despite Yatterman's efforts, Dokurobei reveals his deception and leaves Earth, prompting a truce between the Yatterman team and the reformed Gang.

Gan possesses exceptional mechanical skill, designing and building most of the team's mechas and gadgets. His primary weapon is the versatile "Kenda-Magic," a modified kendama serving as a flail, grappling hook, or electroshock device. He occasionally deploys other inventions like the "Karu Koma" curling top or "Shuru Shuru Cutter" beam weapon. In civilian life, he wears a blue jumpsuit over a black unitard and a matching cap. As Yatterman-1, his uniform is a white suit with a red mask featuring trailing ribbons, a black hat, red gloves, and indigo boots.

The 1977 series depicts Gan with a strong, uncompromising sense of justice, often rigidly opposing the Doronbo Gang and refusing empathy even when rescued by them. The 2008 remake initially portrays him as more carefree and lazy, needing frequent urging from Ai to act, but he matures into a proactive and responsible leader. His relationship with Ai evolves from childhood companions to a battle couple, culminating in marriage, as seen in the "Time Bokan: Royal Revival" OVA, where they briefly interrupt their honeymoon to confront the Doronbo Gang again; Gan catches Jun the Swan during the battle.

In "Yatterman Night," Gan and Ai are deceased, killed by Dokurobei during his revenge plot. Dokurobei conquers Earth as "Lord Yatterman," using robot clones resembling Gan and Ai to oppress the populace. Generations later, Galina adopts Gan's role as Yatterman-1, overthrowing Dokurobei's regime alongside the Doronbo Gang's descendants to avenge Gan and Ai.

Gan appears as a playable fighter in "Tatsunoko vs. Capcom," using the Kenda-Magic for ranged attacks and summoning Yatter-Wan for special moves. His storyline involves recruiting Capcom characters as "Yatterman 4-9" to stop a bank heist; one ending shows him rescuing Ai in battle, reaffirming their bond. The live-action film adapts him as more comically inept, initially unaware of the Skull Stone's significance despite fighting over it.
