Description
Marina, a mermaid princess of an underwater kingdom, has long golden blonde hair, green eyes, and a distinctive green tail. Her personality blends curiosity about the human world with notable bravery, optimism, and selflessness. She consistently shows compassion toward marine creatures and humans, frequently putting others' welfare before her own desires.

Her story begins when she rescues Prince Justin from drowning after a shipwreck caused by a three-headed sea serpent. This act sparks her deep affection for the human prince. To pursue a relationship, Marina bargains with the sea witch Hedwig, exchanging her voice for a temporary human form via a transformative potion. During this transformation, a dress materializes on her. Prince Justin mistakenly credits his rescue to Princess Cecily and becomes engaged to her. When the potion's conditions expire, Marina reverts to her mermaid form. Despite this, she maintains a secret connection with Justin, navigating Hedwig's schemes to dominate both ocean and land realms—schemes often involving enchanted objects like hypnotic flutes.

Marina finds allies in several companions: Winnie, a flying seahorse who emits high-pitched screams; Bobo, a tropical fish informant; and Ridley, a sea otter companion to the wizard Anselm. Anselm provides magical aid through potions enabling temporary transformations, letting Justin breathe underwater or Marina briefly regain human form. A notable loophole exploited by Anselm allows Marina's restoration to mermaid form if she attempts self-harm in human despair, justified as her origins negate "human" classification in the magical pact.

Sea witch Hedwig acts as Marina's persistent adversary, employing minions like the dim-witted hammerhead shark Dudley, the octopus Hugo, and the manta ray Ray. Hedwig seeks to capture Marina to exchange for the Amulet of Power. Marina also faces Princess Cecily, her romantic rival, and Prince Lothar, Justin's sworn enemy who allies with Hedwig.

Marina's arc centers on her quest for a permanent human existence, particularly through locating the transformative Golden Tablet. Through challenges involving thwarting Hedwig's plans and overcoming surface world obstacles, her resilience and dedication to justice remain evident. Her ability to communicate with marine life persists in all forms, underscoring her intrinsic connection to the ocean.
