Known as Dan'l Baboon, though also called Buzara or Mandy Mandrill in some versions, this character is consistently portrayed as a mandrill rather than a baboon. In the 1965 series, he acts as a primary mentor and father figure to the young lion cub Kimba, offering extensive knowledge of the jungle's history and governance. His temper flares quickly when others mention his advanced age. A significant story involves his rivalry with another mandrill named Sandi, also known as Big-O or Scoowa, who returns after ten years to challenge Dan'l for leadership. Initially hesitant due to his age, Dan'l ultimately accepts the challenge with Kimba's encouragement. The 1966 sequel continues his role as a guide to the now-adult Leo and his family. In a darker narrative turn, Leo believes he has accidentally killed Dan'l during a violent encounter at Devil Falls, though it is later revealed Dan'l was only knocked unconscious. His portrayal shifts in the 1997 film, where he is not referred to by name. After a jungle fire, he helps care for injured animals. When a plague spreads, he argues for accepting human-offered medicine, prioritizing survival over the jungle's distrust of mankind. He is left in charge alongside other characters when Leo departs. A final appearance occurs in the special "Jungle Emperor Leo: Hon-o-ji," featuring a design with green fur and a very long tail, consistent with the 1997 film. His role here is brief.
