Description
Lassie begins as a lost collie puppy, found weak and motherless by young John Carraclough in 1930s Yorkshire coal-mining village Greenall Bridge. Under John’s care, she grows healthy and strong, her intelligence and gentle nature making her a community helper and beloved figure.

Financial ruin strikes John’s family when the local mine closes. Desperate, John persuades mine owner Duke Radling to inspect the mine for economic salvation—on condition Lassie is given to Radling’s niece Priscilla in Scotland. John surrenders Lassie despite profound anguish.

In Scotland, Lassie resists her new life, consumed by sadness and longing for John. Priscilla, witnessing her distress, frees her. This sparks Lassie’s grueling 400-mile journey back to Yorkshire. She battles harsh landscapes, brutal weather, starvation, and encounters ranging from aiding kindness to threatening indifference.

Driven by loyalty and resilience, she completes the trek and reunites with John. Her feat captures widespread attention when a journalist covering the mine closure documents it. The publicity rallies support for the pair, earning community recognition. Duke Radling, acknowledging their bond, hosts a celebration in their honor.
