Description
Blackbat leads a villainous trio based in a cave near the village, orchestrating schemes and thefts against villagers. He exhibits selfish tendencies, confiscating items stolen by his henchmen Takochu and Mogu-Mogu for personal use, while harboring specific dislikes like cheese and an inability to swim.

A turning point occurs when he sustains an injury stealing the school bell. Miss Apple, the teacher, tends to his wound, sparking romantic feelings and prompting a shift in behavior. He anonymously returns the bell, accepts a food basket from her during hunger, and leaves her an unsigned flower gift—recognized by matching cloth from the basket.

His attempts to connect include a foiled plan to meet her before leaving town, intercepted by the town cop. Despite this, he stays in the area to remain near her. During Christmas, disguised as Santa, he abandons theft plans after experiencing unexpected joy with villagers, sharing only cake with his henchmen.

Redemption peaks in a forest fire: overhearing Miss Apple’s concern for trapped children, he stops her from entering the blaze and rescues the child Kuruko. Later, he reenters the burning school to save the bell, suffering injuries. Though villagers accept him after recovery, his reform is jeopardized when framed for theft by a resistant citizen; children exonerate him.

Believing his criminal past incompatible with village peace, he attempts to leave alone to ensure Miss Apple’s happiness and his henchmen’s stability. Takochu and Mogu-Mogu reject his sacrifice, choosing loyalty. They depart together, vowing to return someday.
