Description
Patrick is a soot-black Shadow whose silhouette perfectly matches his Living Doll, Ricky. Ricky is a young boy with neatly kept blonde hair, pale skin, and blue eyes, typically dressed in standard male Living Doll attire or a Portrait when serving as Patrick's face. Before selection, Ricky attended school in Mirrorside Village with John, Louise, and Shirley, known for his seriousness and rivalry with John. On the day before selection, Louise convinced Ricky to visit the circus, where they encountered an orphan girl later called Emilico. Ricky styled her hair for the selection, focusing on outer appearances. After selection, brainwashing via coffee brought Ricky and the others to Shadows House, where a morph approached him and became Patrick.

Patrick initially presents as arrogant, confident, and fiercely loyal, driven by a need to prove his worth despite deep-seated insecurities about his below-average soot quantity. His vulnerability surfaced during the Debut when Edward locked him in a box, triggering a panic attack. Emilico comforted him with an orange slice and a yellow daffodil, sparking romantic feelings in Patrick and marking a turning point. This experience made him kinder, more humble, and open-minded. Post-Debut, he retains pride but actively collaborates with others, joining Kate's investigations and joint meetings to uncover mysteries like "Master Robe."

Ricky initially appears arrogant and self-centered, manipulating others to elevate his and Patrick's status. His early actions include punching Shaun to gain Barbie's favor and belittling debutants. Experiences during the Debut, particularly collaborating with Lou in the maze, revealed his underlying sensitivity and kindness when he bandaged her injured leg. He later developed romantic feelings for Lou. Ricky's loyalty to Patrick is paramount; he strategizes to bolster Patrick's image and swears on Patrick's name when accused of lying. A candid discussion about their insecurities deepened their bond into mutual trust, with Patrick calling them "soulmates." Ricky becomes more honest and compassionate, using empathy over cunning.

Patrick's relationships extend beyond Ricky. He respects Kate's leadership despite differing views and clashes with John, though they consider each other friends. Louise teases him non-maliciously. He earns Margaret's affection after bonding over flowers, remaining oblivious to her feelings. Patrick highly regards Barbara, defending her during soot seizures and calming her with flowers. His soot ability nullifies other soot powers on contact, and his emotions manifest physically: anxiety spreads fine soot thinly, while embarrassment around Emilico emits heart-shaped soot.

Ricky's relationships include a rivalry-turned-friendship with Shaun, whom he initially fought. John saved Ricky from a boulder during the Debut, citing Emilico's influence. Ricky reconciled with Barbie by sharing his efforts to support Patrick, easing tensions after she nicknamed him "Presumptuous twat." His bond with Lou strengthens post-Debut, with internal monologues confirming his affection for her rather than Louise.

During the Kidnapping Arc, Patrick and Ricky sheltered Kate's group to strategize rescuing Emilico. Patrick corrected Ricky when he referred to Emilico dismissively, showing protectiveness. They later aided in rescuing Emilico and Kate from Edward, with Ricky helping Shaun free them mid-air. Patrick's development culminates in prioritizing collective action over individual status, while Ricky's growth is evident in his willingness to express vulnerability and prioritize genuine connections over ambition.
