TV-Series
Description
Lou and Louise exist as a shadow-living doll pair within the Shadows House. Louise, the shadow master, manifests as a featureless black silhouette with short curly hair, clad in a Victorian-style yellow dress featuring flower accessories and dark blue flats. Lou, her living doll, mirrors Louise's silhouette but possesses distinct human features: wine-red curly bob hair, bright yellow eyes, and wears either a Victorian maid uniform or formal Portrait attire when acting as Louise's face.
Originally inhabitants of Mirrorside Village, Lou attended school with John, Patrick, and Shirley. Portraying Louise, she served as a class role model, often smiling and teasing Patrick. On the day before the selection, she persuaded Patrick to accompany her to a circus, where they discovered an orphan girl later named Emilico. Lou facilitated Emilico's infiltration into the selection under the alias "Kate." Following selection, Lou and the others underwent brainwashing via soot-laced coffee before being transported to the Shadows House, where a morph (who became Louise) approached her.
Louise displays a sassy, confident, and narcissistic personality, frequently admiring Lou's appearance as an extension of herself. Initially, she treats Lou as an object, employing her soot ability to forcibly manipulate Lou's facial expressions. Louise delights in exhibiting Lou to others and adorns her room with sketches of her. She shuns serious discussions, prioritizing fun and social standing. Lou remains quiet, obedient, and struggles with independent choices, viewing herself exclusively as Louise's "face." She obsesses over preventing facial damage and executes orders without complaint, even when exhausted. Her dedication stems partially from brainwashing but also incorporates genuine concern for Louise.
During the debut arc, Louise applied makeup to Lou, inadvertently leaving soot residue. They secured first place in Edward's evaluation through perfect synchronization during a dance and correctly stating Living Dolls "shouldn't think" about specific matters. Later, Edward trapped Louise in a pit during a garden maze test. Lou, aided by Ricky, rescued her, though Louise reacted irritably to Ricky's presence. Louise and Lou celebrated their successful debut while callously laughing at Shirley and Rum's failure.
In the kidnapping arc, Louise assisted Kate's plan to rescue Emilico, using her mental-type soot power to control a Veiled Doll and confirm Edward's involvement. Though initially motivated by annoyance toward Edward, she actively participated in securing a disguise for Kate. Subsequently, Louise and Lou reported Edward's actions to the Star Bearers, leading to his exposure. Louise later trained with Benjamin and joined Kate's team meetings.
Louise's soot power grants mental control over living dolls. By breathing soot directly into a target's mouth, she manipulates their facial expressions. Initially limited to Lou, she later extended this control to other dolls. Edward assessed her soot quantity as "excellent." When experiencing negative emotions, her soot emits in curved patterns.
Their relationship evolves significantly. Louise initially treats Lou as a possession, showcasing her face while disregarding her autonomy, frequently using soot to control her expressions. However, after events around chapter 65, Louise begins prioritizing Lou's physical well-being, checking on her fatigue levels. Lou demonstrates subtle independence, such as secretly gifting Ricky her shears during the debut maze, hoping he and Patrick would pass. She also expresses trust in Ricky by requesting a flower and breaking rules "because it’s Ricky." Flashbacks reveal Lou once led Ricky by hand and teased him, hinting at residual memories beneath her doll persona.
Louise trains alongside Benjamin, the Star Bearers' secretary, respecting his role. She interacts playfully yet non-maliciously with Patrick, teasing him while offering her soot when his proves insufficient for sculpting. Lou respects Emilico's problem-solving abilities during phantom incidents and shows gratitude toward Ricky for aiding her rescue of Louise.
