Parona, a teenage girl from Ninannah, endured the traumatic loss of her elder sister Penna, sacrificed to the Spirit Bear Oniguma in a ritual. Blamed for evading her own sacrificial duty, she was exiled from her village. During her displacement, she forged a deep bond with March, a young girl she shielded from their grim reality by crafting dolls, inventing games, and assuming a surrogate sister role. Defying Ninannah’s sacrificial customs, Parona demonstrated resourcefulness and tactical cunning. She staged a daring rescue to spare March from ritual death, orchestrating a faked demise and confronting Hayase, a Yanome envoy upholding the traditions. Her proficiency in archery, hand-to-hand combat, and improvised weaponry enabled her to outmaneuver captors during their imprisonment in Yanome, temporarily safeguarding March. After escaping Yanome, Parona focused on shielding March until the girl succumbed to wounds from the conflict. Determined to return March’s body to Ninannah, Parona was intercepted by Hayase. In their final clash, she vowed to reunite with March but was restrained from self-destruction by Fushi, an immortal she had previously aided. Parona’s rebellion sparked a shift in Ninannah’s villagers, who briefly celebrated her defiance. Her story ended tragically when Hayase brutally murdered her, later using her skin to mend facial scars—a revelation during the Jananda Island arc. Fushi intermittently assumed Parona’s visage posthumously, reflecting her lingering impact on his existence. Her bond with March anchored her motivations, intertwining fierce protection with raw vulnerability. Though she projected steadiness around March, Parona wrestled with unresolved grief and guilt over failing to save Penna. Balancing pragmatism and empathy, she navigated survival against oppression and sorrow, leaving an indelible mark through resilience and defiance.
